  • Mindi Jensen is a teacher at North Sanpete Middle School in Moroni, Utah
  • She says the parents of one student recently found her social media accounts and complained to administrators
  • They called the posts on body-building 'immodest' and 'pornographic'
  • Administrators asked Jensen to take down the pictures or privatize them - or risk losing her job
  • Following a school board meeting on Wednesday, they backtracked and apologized to her

A Utah middle school teacher says administrators threatened to fire her over fitness inspiration pictures she posted to her Instagram page.

Mindi Jensen, a teacher at North Sanpete Middle School in Moroni, says the parents of a student at the school found her Instagram page, which she started under an alias, and complained to the school's administration.

The photos show Jensen wearing bikinis to compete in body-building competitions and donning workout gear to exercise at the gym. Others feature her four children.

Jensen told Good 4 Utah: '[Some school] kids found it and the parents were appalled by the pictures. They called it immodest. They called it pornographic. They called the pictures inappropriate, and these are my fitness, and show pictures in my sport, in my uniform in my bodybuilding sport.'

The mother of four says that administrators gave her three options: set the photos to private, take them down or be fired.

But Jensen, who is recently divorced, didn't want to comply with the school's request, saying she started getting into body-building to help her deal with depression.

She says that many women have commented on her posts, saying that she has inspired them to live a healthy lifestyle.

The school asked her to take down the pictures or make them private, but Jensen challenged them - saying she didn't think it was right for her rights to be restricted

'I get comments and messages that it's inspirational to them, and that these women like my story, and they're following my story, and if I put it to private then it's not going to reach these people that might need and understand me,' she told Fox 13

'Why are my rights being taken away and not the child’s right? It's between the parent and the child.

'Put restrictions on your children. If you are not comfortable with seeing me in my fitness uniform on stage posing, then take that away from your kid. Don’t take it away from me.'

Ahead of a school board meeting on Wednesday, Jensen says she spoke to the principal and said she was willing to stake her job on her right to post on her social media accounts.

Jensen was not present for the meeting but afterwards she says she was contacted by the principal who said she was no longer in danger of losing her job.

The school district has since issued an apology in Jensen. In a statement, the North Sanpete School District superintendent said it has 'cleared up any misconceptions with employees' and will work to train parents on how to monitor their children's internet usage.
