Michael J. Fox celebrated the thirtieth anniversary of the premiere of Back to the Future with an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live Wednesday night.

Fox opened the show by reprising his character from the film Marty McFly, and driving into the studio in the time-travelling DeLorean made famous by the movies.

He did this on the same day that he and Doc enter the future in the film's second installment, and was incredibly unimpressed with the advancements made by humans over the past 30 years.

After Fox and Christopher Lloyd, the actor who played Doc, got out of the DeLorean, they inquired about what technologies predicted in Back to the Future Part II had come true.

When told that there were no flying cars or hoover boards and the peace had not been achieved in the Middle East, Fox told Kimmel; 'If you don't mind me asking, what the hell have you guys been doing for 30 years?'

He then added; 'It seems like 2015 kinda sucks.'

Doc meanwhile had a big question for late night host Kimmel; 'What happened to Johnny Carson?'

After giving him the bad news about Carson, singer Huey Lewis stood up in he audience asking the men to be quiet in an amusing cameo.

Kimmel was however able to share one big technological advancement with the men when he pulled out his smart phone - and snapped a selfie.

As for how people use those smart phones, Kimmel explained that many just send smiley faces or pictures of eggplants to their friends.

Kimmel also shared another major breakthrough for humankind.

'Oh, let’s see, we invented this thing call the cronut,' he said.

'It’s part croissant and part doughnut and they put them together and it’s actually quite delicious.'

Doc shared some knowledge with Kimmel as well when asked by the talk show host how he would die.

'Next week a bunch of angry children will tear you to shreds when you tell their mothers to take away their Halloween candy,' said Doc, a reference to the annual prank Kimmel pulls asking that parents take away their childrens' Halloween candy and film their reactions.
