In an interview marking the 30th anniversary of the film's premiere, writer Bob Gale said he very much had the billionaire in mind while creating Biff.

In the first film, Biff becomes incredibly rich from his casinos, and in the second installment he uses his wealth to become a politician.

The blond fuzzy-haired baddie creates a dystopian society in which citizens must do as he wishes and all women must get plastic surgery.

He also has multiple affairs and citizens are told to call him 'America’s greatest living folk hero.'

The Daily Beast asked Gale if he had been thinking about Trump while creating the character.

Gale responded: 'We thought about it when we made the movie! Are you kidding?!

'You watch Part II again and there’s a scene where Marty confronts Biff in his office and there’s a huge portrait of Biff on the wall behind Biff, and there’s one moment where Biff kind of stands up and he takes exactly the same pose as the portrait?

'Yeah. That’s what we were thinking about.'

Biff uses the profits from his 27-story casino to help shake up the Republican Party, before eventually assuming political power himself.

Most of the action in the second film revolves around Marty McFly and Doc doing everything they can to make sure that Biff does not rise to power.

In the end, they are able to travel in time and make sure that Biff never becomes the leader of their town.

Trump has a 37-floor casino, The Trump Plaza Hotel, which was finished in 1984 when Back To The Future was being made. He is currently frontrunner in the race to be the Republicans' candidate for President next year.

And his hairdo also remains strikingly similar to Biff's.

He has yet to to comment on Gale's admission.
