'I think you need to move on': Daniel Craig shuts down reporter in excruciating Spectre interview after she repeatedly asks him to 'pout'

  • Daniel Craig appeared in a pre-recorded interview on ITV's This Morning
  • But the Spectre star faced a bizarre line of questioning from the reporter
  • Sarah Powell asked the actor to 'pout' several times, but he refused
  • Viewers took to Twitter to comment on the 'excruciatingly awful' interview
  • This Morning hosts Phillip Schofield and Amanda Holden were caught off-guard as the interview cut out abruptly

An interview with Daniel Craig that aired on ITV's This Morning on Thursday has left viewers less than impressed, with some dubbing it 'embarrassing' and 'excruciating'.

The James Bond star was promoting his latest film Spectre, and appeared opposite the programme's showbiz reporter Sarah Powell.

But the 47-year-old actor shut her down after she repeatedly asked him to 'pout' for her, telling her eventually: 'I think you need to move on.'

Another moment in the cringeworthy interview saw the chatty journalist ask him why he didn't 'strip off' in Spectre as much as he has done in his previous three Bond films.

'There's no swimwear, there's no tearing of the shirt off. What happened, why haven't you got your kit off?' she probed.

Looking uncomfortable with the bizarre line of questioning, he corrected her: 'There is in the opening sequence.'

He added, after she protested that it wasn't for very long: 'It just didn't happen.'

Powell then asked if 'Bond has gone shy?' to which he uttered: 'He's going shy now.'

During the junket chat, she also touched on a range of topics, including the amount of polo neck tops he wore during filming (he bluntly admitted he had no idea), whether he would want to be the Milk Tray Man and if he chose how to decorate James Bond's house in the film.

But the most mortifying part was when the famously stoic star shut her down when she continued to ask him to 'pull the James Bond pout' for her.

'Are you familiar with the James Bond pout?' she questioned, to which he replied in the negative.

  • Acts as showbusiness correspondent for ITV's This Morning
  • Also presents a slot for Heat Radio

She then started to try another question, before stopping mid-sentence and urging him: 'Go on.'

'Do what?' he asked with an amused smile on his face, before shaking his head and telling her to 'move on'.

In addition to the awkward interview, with a great contrast in Powell's bubbly demeanor against Craig's more patient character, it emerged that the video was actually rushed in the editing room.

As the clip ended abruptly and was cut back to the This Morning studio, host Phillip Schofield turned to his co-star Amanda Holden - who were slouched on the sofa, unprepared for the quick turnaround - and commented about the awkward 'pout' questioning.

He said: 'We rushed that interview over and edited that quickly, I'm sure we would have taken out the pouting stuff if we had more time.'

Phillip also burst into laughter and said that it was cut short because Craig 'sweared' at Powell at the end of the interview, during which she tried to give the actor a giant car sticker with his wife Rachel Weisz's name on it.

A source close to the ITV programme has denied that the actor was swearing at her, telling MailOnline: 'We were keen for viewers to see the interview as soon as possible so it was rushed back from the junket which took place while This Morning was on air.

'The end was cut short as Daniel swore in ref to the big banner he was shown - he certainly didn't swear at Sarah.'

Fans took to Twitter in their droves to comment on the awkward exchange between Powell and Craig and, while it was two-sided - with many calling out the actor for being grumpy - it seems most of the comments were negatively skewed towards the reporter.

One fan wrote: '#thismorning #Bond Daniel Craig interview was uncomfortable. Interviewer was childlish & undermining.'

Another added: 'Could tell Daniel Craig didn't like her very much, rightly so because she was awful. #ThisMorning.'

One TV viewer really laid into Powell, commenting: 'Girl from#thismorning is doing the worst interview ever with Daniel Craig...she's asking him to pout. So embarrassing.'

Another commented that it was 'crap' and that a 'five-year-old could have written better questions', as one joked that 'Jonathan Ross your job is safe'.

But the most overarching theme is that the entire ordeal was awkward and painful to watch, with a fan stating: 'Oh my god what an excruciatingly awful interview with Daniel Craig #thismorning #awkward.'

It's been a busy time for the cast in the run-up to the release of Spectre - which hits UK cinemas on October 26 - and later on Thursday they joined forces to appear at the official photo call in London.

And Bond fans at home had another reason to talk earlier in the morning when, during a segment on BBC Breakfast, ones of the presenters accidently referred to Daniel Craig as Craig David.

Naga Munchetty made the embarrassing slip of the tongue as she discussed the actor, but mistook him for the British garage music artist.

Speaking about the film, she said during the live broadcast: 'Kate, does this Bond stay in the modern age, we've seen quite a lot of the that in the Craig David... Er, in the, in the films lately.'

Twitter was awash with remarks about her gaffe, and Craig David himself took to the social networking site to comment on it.

He joked: 'When the you know the new music is about to drop it's hard to think straight.'

Daniel is busy promoting the latest Bond film Spectre, for which the latest trailer was unveiled on Wednesday.

While teasers and trailers released thus far have focused on the typical action-packed drama, the brand new clip - exclusive to MailOnline - showed 007 as the passionate, seductive hedonist he is known and loved for in an intimate clinch with Bond girl, Monica Bellucci.

Spectre reunites Craig with director Sam Mendes, after 2012′s Skyfall became the highest-grossing Bond film in history.

As ever, the film - a behemoth of a picture at over two hours long, the longest in the Bond franchise yet - is international, taking the cast from locations in Mexico to Austria, Rome and Morocco.

It brings back Craig in his leading role, along with Naomie Harris as Moneypenny, Ben Wishaw as Q and Ralph Fiennes as M.

They are joined by newcomers Bellucci as Lucia Sciarra, and Léa Seydoux stars as Madeline Swann, the daughter of the lead protagonist's enemy Mr White (Jesper Christensen) from the Quantam organisation.
