Instead of straining the potatoes, the man in the footage lifts the vegetables out, and places them into a bowl of iced water along with a spoon and leaves them there for five to ten seconds.

He then lifts the lid off the pan, and picks up one of the potatoes, and the skin comes away easily in his hands.

When he is finished the shell of the egg comes away smoothly in one piece - leaving no mess to clean away.

As the cold nights settle in, a suggestion for keeping warm is to slide bubble wrap slid between the panes of glass in your window to help keep the heat in - if you don't mind obstructing your view.
