Bill Murray and Jenny Lewis set the internet alight with romance rumours after a night out on Tuesday.

The 65-year-old actor and the 39-year-old musician were spotted partying together at New York City club Good Units.

The comedian was celebrating the release of his latest movie Rock The Kasbah with an all-night shindig attended by co-stars Bruce Willis, Kate Hudson, and Zooey Deschanel, as well as Naomi Campbell, Lady Gaga and fiance Taylor Kinney.

But it was one guest in particular that reportedly captivated the screen legend's attention. 

When Lewis arrived at the party late, she jumped on stage an joined him for a song, capturing the moment on her Instagram page. 

PageSix even suggested that the pair may be more than just mates, describing her as Murray's 'current younger love interest', and quoting one source naming Jenny as 'Bill’s special friend'.

It claimed the flame-haired Californian was also at an earlier Hamptons screening of the film, and that they were also later spotted together at the nearby Hunting Inn.

However, multiple sources subsequently dismissed the reports, insisting the two were 'just good pals'.

'It's not true,' one source told E! 'They're just friends.'

The songstress has long been attached to fellow singer and long-time collaborator Jonathan Rice.

Nevertheless she appears in a faux rock documentary promoting Bill's latest flick, and will also play a roll in his upcoming Netflix Christmas special, A Very Murray Christmas. 

On Wednesday the SNL alum's fans were further confused following a Reddit AMA when responded to questions with lengthy rambling meandering answers that seemed to make little or no sense.

One fan even asked if he was dating Lewis but he didn't answer that one; however a user named 'jennylewis' replied 'Can confirm. We are in love' - although it cannot be confirmed this was the real Jenny Lewis.
