Jesse Joronen scores from his own half as Stevenage beat Wycombe Wanderers as Plymouth Argyle stay top of League Two

Stevenage's Jesse Joronen became the first goalkeeper to score in the Football League this season as his side won 2-1 against Wycombe.

The Stevenage boss was delighted that his side got the rub of the green.

'There has been a few over the years. I didn’t think it was windy or skiddy enough to do it today but it just catches people out sometimes and we are delighted for a little bit of luck like that,' he told Stevenage's official website.

Joronen is the first keeper to score in the top four tiers of English Football since Asmir Begovic's goal for Stoke against Southampton in November 2013.

After the game, Stevenage's Twitter account quipped: 'Thanks for your superb support on another memorable afternoon at The Lamex. Striker scores. Goalkeeper scores. Standard day at the office.'

Joronen added: 'What a great win!!! Boys defended brilliantly and the fans were unreal!!! Thanks for the messages everyone, good day all over!'

Striker Reid fired home into the top corner in the 64th minute as Plymouth secured a fifth straight win in all competitions.

Portsmouth stay three points behind in second place after Matt Tubbs fired his fourth goal in two matches to secure them a 1-0 win at bottom club Newport, who remain without a win this season at Rodney Parade.
