Lewis Hamilton is great for Formula One and more drivers should be like him, says US Grand Prix promoter... as British world champion prepares for Austin in a go-kart

  • US Grand Prix organiser adds that more drivers should be like Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton has gone back to his roots ahead of the US Grand Prix this weekend - and a promoter of the event has claimed more drivers should be more like him to sell Formula One.

The Briton, 30, can clinch another world title in Austin and has been racing children in go-karts  as he prepares to join the likes of Jackie Stewart and Ayrton Senna with three championships.

Hamilton has been pictured with the likes of Rihanna and the Kardashians away from the track this year and his party lifestyle has been criticised by many, but Bobby Epstein says his personality is perfect for the sport.

'Hollywood is based in America,' Epstein told the Guardian. 'This is the centre of the entertainment business. Formula One has some great personalities and we shouldn't hold them back. They are the people who sell tickets.

'Lewis has recognised that and he's got outside the traditional comfort zone for some people in F1. I think it's great. We need more of that. He's a personality. Cars don't have the same personality.

'Fans relate to human beings, not metal. And what Lewis is doing is great for the business. We also like winners over here, and Lewis is the biggest winner out there. We don't like rooting for the guy who comes in 20th.'

Hamilton has been prominent on social media after making his way to the US, posting a snap of the view from the cockpit on his plane as well as an image with him and kids after a promotional event.

He has also posed alongside Will Smith and Kylie Jenner, and says his 'mega balance' has helped him to improve this season, insisting that he is enjoying himself more than ever off the track, as well as on it.

The Mercedes driver can emulate his hero Senna with a third title at the Circuit of the Americas by outscoring Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel by nine points and team-mate Nico Rosberg by two.

With three races remaining after Austin, Hamilton will surely secure the crown elsewhere. But he would love to do it in a city he admitted last year felt like home.
