Karim Benzema laughs off Arsenal rumours and insists he is happy at Real Madrid 

Karim Benzema laughed at rumours that he wants to leave Real Madrid and insisted he is already playing at the highest level.

Benzema did though admit that he sees the funny side to the speculation after a summer of speculation linking with a move to Arsenal.

He added that Real and Barcelona are the top two teams in the world and that he's delighted to be starting for Rafael Benitez's side as he looks to get back to fitness.

Benzema told Journal du Dimanche: 'Never. Like every summer, I laugh about it with my brother and my friends. We wait for the media to come out with these rumours.

'In my opinion, I think that Real and Barca are the pinnacle in football. Why I would leave?

'I'm a starter for the best club in the world. I am happy; it's that simple.'

The French international was unable to play a part in Real's win over Levante where his side ran out 3-0 winners as Cristiano Ronaldo moved one clear of Raul to become the Spanish club's all-time leading scorer with 324 goals.

Benzema is set for two more weeks on the sidelines, but did manage to train separately with also injured team-mate Luka Modric on Friday.

The 27-year-old has scored at least 20 goals each term in his past five seasons and has flourished so far this term, scoring seven times in eight La Liga games, before he picked up a thigh injury with France against Armenia during the international break.
