The hilarious footage was filmed by a friend who giggled while watching the men take part in the wacky 50m sprint in Japan. Crossing the line in first place, in a time of about seven seconds, was sumo expert Kaiho followed by Masakatsu Ishiura and Amakaze. The one-of-a-kind race was held during a day off while the wrestlers were on tour of Tokyo.

The slapstick footage from Russia showed the bird hopping down from the curb and causally crossing the road (top left). Walking in front of a car the pigeon refused to use its wings, forcing a driver to make an emergency stop. This led to a red car clipping the vehicle from behind and knocking off its wing mirror (bottom left) before a second grey car crashed into the back of it (right).

The 57 photographs were taken by Stewart Bale and presented to Sir John Stewart, Provost of Glasgow, in 1937. On November 3, it will go under the hammer at Charles Miller auctioneers in London. Queen Mary boasted accommodation for 2,139 passengers and five dining areas and lounges, two cocktail bars, two swimming pools, a grand ballroom and a squash court.
