Prince Harry is due to visit America next week where he will meet with Michelle Obama and Jill Biden to promote his Olympics-style competition for wounded servicemen.

The fifth in line to throne was last in the U.S. in 2013 when he got the idea for the sporting event, dubbed the Invictus Games, while watching the Warrior Games in Colorado.

After overseeing the inaugural event in London last year, Harry is set to stage the second Invictus Games in Orlando, Florida, in 2016.

Michelle Obama and Jill Biden, who are both heavily involved in campaigning for the welfare of servicemen and veterans, will meet the British Royal in Virginia next Wednesday.

While there, the trio will take a tour of the Fort Belvoir military base, which covers 14-square miles and houses 31,000 troops in their families.

In particular, they will visit the United Service Organizations center located on the base which supports wounded servicemen and women, along with their loved ones and caregivers.

They will also watch an event which will feature sports similar to those that will appear in the prince's Games next year.

Harry served in the military himself for ten years, including two tours of the Middle East, though left the service in March this year.

His involvement with wounded servicemen began before that milestone, when he took part in the Walking With The Wounded trek to the South Pole in 2013.

It took the team, pulling their equipment on sleds through temperatures as low as -16F (-27C), three weeks to reach the pole, a feat Harry described as 'an amazing feeling'.

Towards the end of his service career in 2014, Harry helped launch the first Invictus Games in London in September.

Jill Biden led a delegation to those games as part of the Joining Forces military initiative she leads with Mrs. Obama.

As well as sporting events with competitors from 13 nations, it also featured a star-studded closing ceremony included performances by the likes of Foo Fighters, Ellie Golding and James Blunt.

There will be no event this year in order for organizers of next year's event, headed by Kenneth Fisher, a longstanding champion of wounded service personnel, to raise funds and plan.

Speaking back in 2014, Harry said: 'This is just the beginning of the Invictus story.

'The competitors showed grit, determination and humour: an absolute refusal to be beaten or be defined by their injuries – the Invictus spirit was born.

'I can’t wait to see the American public supporting these inspirational men and women at the next games.'
