'Marriage has nothing to do with relationship success': Goldie Hawn tells Alan Carr why she hasn't wed Kurt Russell after 30 years together

She has one of Hollywood's most enduring relationships.

But - after thirty years together - actress Goldie Hawn has revealed why she never married her long-term partner, Kurt Russell, despite having a child together.

The blonde star told Alan Carr's Chatty Man that she doesn't need to formalise their commitment because 'a ring will not define the truth'.

In the pre-recorded interview which will air on Friday evening at 10pm on Chanel 4 - and also featured comedian Katherine Ryan and Kaiser Chief frontman Ricky Wilson - she said: 'We haven’t found ourselves in a marriage situation.

'I’ve been married twice. The reality of "Oh, oh, oh" in Beyoncé’s single ladies can turn into a (depressed tone) “Oh, oh, oh”. Basically, once you’ve done it once, once you’ve done it twice and you realise that marriage, or the act of marrying, has nothing to do with the success.

'The wake-up call every day is, “Do you I want to be with this man? Do I want to be in this relationship? Am I willing to give something? How can it flourish and do I want to be there?” So the idea is do we want to be there, or do we not want to be there? Any marriage, any ceremony, any ring will not define that truth'.

Lightening the mood, Alan then asked her about her partner's facial hair - something he assumed for a film role.

'I didn’t like it,' she responds. 'I don’t like facial hair and I don’t like necessarily kissing facial hair because you are not finding the lips. His bottom lip is available but the top lip isn’t and all that hair growing down and you have to lift it up.

'[But] I like Kurt any way it goes, unless it goes crazy – and it goes crazy now and then. Who would like someone who is normal? I like people who have temperament and are excited about things.

'He wakes up every morning like a child and is always happy and he brings me my coffee and starts the day off perfectly. All of that is fine and well. So in terms of not liking his moustache, that is lightweight stuff.'

Goldie and Kurt have been together since the early 1980s and they have a son together, Wyatt Russell (aged 29).

Kurt has also played dad to Goldie’s children, actors Kate and Oliver Hudson, after the two had a rocky relationship with their father Bill Hudson. Kate and Oliver affectionately call their surrogate father ‘Pa.’

Goldie's appearance on the show comes just days after she was a one-off panelist on ITV's Loose Women, where she discussed her previous failed relationships.

'A marriage ends up being a business deal, no matter how long or short it is somebody owes somebody money. I was at the short end of the stick on that one.

'I just looked and thought this was ridiculous, this kind of thing when you're together, two, three, four or even five years. It's an inappropriate amount of money to have to pay.

'It's ridiculous to have to base your relationship on money. Money can destroy people it really can. It's nice for a woman to go out and have her own money and her own ability to do what she wants.'

Goldie was married to Kate's father Bill between 1976 and 1982 and they had a second child Oliver together. Previously Goldie's marriage to Gus Trikonis ended in 1976 after seven years together.

Alan Carr's Chatty Man will air on Channel 4 at 10pm on Friday
