The beauty and the memes... Adele's moving Hello viral video has the internet crying tears of laughter as well as sorrow

It's one of the most beautiful things the internet has seen in some time, with over 10M worldwide views in the first 24 hours.

But no phenomenon is ever safe from the viral meme in 2015, as comeback queen Adele was sure to learn on Friday when she released her first track in two years, Hello.

Amidst the collective weeping brought on by her exquisite lyrics, it was the flip phone, the way she makes tea and the comparisons with Lionel Richie that had the rest of the internet crying tears of laughter.

First, came pause-worthy realisation that Adele was saying 'Hello' into a flip phone, which by today's standards is an obsolete form of communication.

BBC Radio 1 DJ Greg James was one of the first to point out the use, taking to Twitter to say, 'Further proof that @Adele can do whatever she wants...SHE'S BRINGING BACK THE FLIP PHONE'

It's not the first time that the beauty has used the communication device nonetheless, because one eagle-eyed social media user dug up a vintage photo of Adele using said device.

Her lyrics, Adele confessed on Friday, would be a reflection on time gone by and an excuse to say 'hello' to the friends and exes of her past.

Adele's simple one-word song title naturally didn't go without its comparisons to Lionel Richie's 1983 ethereal ballad of the same name.

The internet wasn't slow to catch onto the similarities and before midday, a mash up between the two tracks surfaced; seeing Adele spectacularly hang up the phone on a longing Lionel.

Diva qualities she was not without in the hilariously dubbed video as a capture of her closing the phone in her oversized shades was lifted straight out of her new music video.

In a variation on internationally-recognised 'Hello,' one user even dredged up the cult Noughties trend of answering the phone with 'Whassup?' which became famous in a Budweiser beer advert and later as part of Scream parody film Scary Movie.

Adele's choice of telephone wasn't the only target for social media critiques, because the beauty's tea-making methods were also called into question.

In the video, Adele is seen pouring hot water into a tea cup before placing the tea bag in afterwards - something one social media user found profoundly offensive.

'What kind of a MONSTER puts the hot water in before the teabag?' she raged. 'Adele has lost the run of herself #boycottadele'

Another distracted superfan wrote: 'Is it so wrong that I only care about what tea bag brand and flavour Adele uses? PG tips, Yorkshire, Twinings?'

But Adele had the majority of fans weeping tears of sorrow into their cups of tea on Friday morning.

After all the general reaction was that Adele had once again rescued the music industry with a sure-fire hit.

One delighted music fan said: 'She has come to deliver us from Taylor Swift' and another said that she was red-eyed within just one minute of listening.

Even pop goddess Katy Perry had high praise for the British songstress, because she had clearly been crying into her pillow thanks to her fun weepy-picture on Twitter.

She added: 'Listen's to "Hello" from @OfficialAdele once' next to a picture of a tear-stained face on her bed sheets.

Later, How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days actress Kate Hudson concurred, saying 'When @adele puts out a new single... She's done it again!'

The Hollywood star spared no shame in telling her 2.5M Instagram followers that she was an emotional wreck on hearing it; giving fans a glimpse of her crying behind a cushion on Friday morning.
