Nicole Kidman and Benedict Cumberbatch are suited and booted as they take to the stage in Danny Boyle's Children's Monologues

They've both set the London theatrical scene alight with their critically acclaimed performances.

But on Sunday Nicole Kidman and Benedict Cumberbatch put aside their respective roles in Photograph 51 and Hamlet to tread the boards in a play for charity Dramatic Need, at the Royal Court Theatre.

Taking to the stage to star in Children's Monologues, directed by Danny Boyle, the two Hollywood stars led a host of talent in the special performance - held in aid of vulnerable children in Africa.

Nicole, 48, and Benedict, 39, arrived at the theatre in Sloan Square, Kensington and Chelsea for a pre-performance rehearsal of Boyle's emotional retelling of a day-in-the-life of various African children. 

Slipping into their respective roles for the first and only performance of the Oscar-winning director's play, the star's relied on performance alone to carry the script's heart-felt message to the audience.

Opting for an understated yet on-point ensemble, the Moulin Rouge! star opted for a suitably understated look as she teamed a double breasted blazer jacket with a white silk top.

Keeping to her laid-back theme the Australia actress added a pair of black fitted jeans and a pair of two-tone trainers to her wardrobe.

Wearing her trademark blonde lock in a centre-parting and loose ponytail 'do' ,the Oscar-winning actress showcased her striking features.

With an understated and natural palette of make-up finishing off her look, the Hollywood beauty took to the stage with only her dramatic skill to conjure up her character ahead of the evening's performance.

Sporting his familiar tousle of loose brown curls, the Sherlock star opted for a laid-back affair of a dark green checked Harrington and a white tee-shirt, which he teamed with jeans and a pair of tan boots.

But while Nicole and Benedict were arguably Danny's two marquee stars in the special one-off performance, the pair were part of glittering cast full of American and British acting talent.

Silver screen supremo Josh Hartnett also took to the stage sporting a slick fringe and perfectly groomed moustache and beard, while X-Men star James McAvoy also cut a rugged character on-stage.

While Game of Thrones stars Kit Harrington, Rose Leslie and Alfie Allen also took part in the production alongside the likes of Harry Potter star David Thewlis.

And chalking up yet another high-profile performance for her acting CV, Prince Harry's former flame Cressida Bonas also took on a role in the production.

The one-off production celebrates the fifth anniversary of Danny's original production of the play.

The original production saw Danny dramatizes the testimonies of young children growing up in Rammulotsi, a small rural township in the Free State province of South Africa.

Starring the liked of Sir Ben Kingsley, Gemma Arterton, Eddie Redmayne, tom Hardy and Benedict, the play saw the actors retelling both happy and drastically sad days from the young people's lives.
