One onlooker captured the comedian's tumble on cell phone video and shared it via Instagram.

The grainy footage sees Fallon, 41, collecting the bottle of German liquor as he greeted fans lined up to greet him outside the venue and turning around before hitting the deck.

A police officer is seen coming to his aid and helping him up again.

A witness told People: 'It was all part of the celebration in the street and some random girl kneeled down in front of him abruptly as he was turning around and he tripped over her because he didn't see her.'

The culprit! The bottle of Jagermeister that Fallon had been holding when he tripped broke on impact and presumably it's the shattered glass that caused the injury to the Tonight Show host's hand

After his fall, the late night host was rushed to Masschusetts General Hospital in Boston.

'A guy and a guy got out of the limo and went in before him for like five minutes,' an autograph seeker told People. 'They came out, waved to the car, Jimmy got out and they all walked into Mass General.'

In a fan photo shared on social media later Saturday evening, Fallon's middle two fingers are seen bandaged together and the bandage also goes around the whole of his right hand

Earlier in the afternoon, the magazine said, Fallon had been hanging out at the Hong Kong restaurant, a popular bar in Harvard Square where he joined students in drinking Scorpion Bowls.

On Sunday, the entertainer made light of his ordeal.

He posted a photo of his right hand on his social media accounts with the caption: 'Nothing that a few band aids couldn't fix.'

The comedian was crowned Emperor of Comedy and paraded through Harvard Square in a Roman chariot as a prelude to the evening ceremony.

The parade started by the Inn at Harvard and ended at the steps of the Harvard Lampoon's headquarters, Lampoon Castle, where he was presented with a trophy and an 85-cent check.

It's just the seventh time the undergraduate organization says it has bestowed the honor.

Previous recipients include Fallon's Tonight Show predecessor Jay Leno, as well as John Cleese and Robin Williams.
