  • Anna, Vera, Marchesa's Georgina Chapman, and her husband producer Harvey Weinstein organized the A-list event
  • Tickets to the fundraiser cost a donation of at least $2,700
  • Matthew Morrison, Martha Stewart, Michael Kors, Jason Wu, Annie Leibovitz, and Countess LuAnn were also in attendance
  • Hillary and husband Bill arrived holding hands after most of the guests were already there
  • Clinton's fundraising numbers dropped by 41 per cent in the year's third quarter after a strong performance following her campaign's launch

Celebrities and top fashion designers lent their support to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign last night at a private - but star-studded - New York City fundraiser.

The ritzy event was held in designer Vera Wang's Upper East Side apartment on Sunday night, and was co-hosted by Vera, Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman, and Georgina's husband, producer Harvey Weinstein.

And plenty of other famous names were happy to fork over a donation for the chance to spend time with the Democratic frontrunner, who turns 68 today and arrived at the party with husband Bill Clinton in tow.

Tickets for the exclusive event cost $2,700 and included a photo with the Clintons, who seemed to be in a good mood as they walked past paparazzi after most of the other guests had arrived.

Hillary took a break from matching pantsuits and opted instead for a shiny red top and plain black pants, while Bill - who waved and held her hand as he walked beside her - donned a simple blue suit.

Other fashionable guests who turned up for the fete included celebrity designers Jason Wu, Michael Kors, and Cynthia Rowley.

Martha Stewart, photographer Annie Leibovitz, producer Jane Rosenthal (of Meet the Parents fame), Vogue editor André Leon Talley, and Anna Wintour's daughter Bee Shaffer were all shot walking in as well, while Glee star Matthew Morrison and his wife Renee Puente stopped to pose for pictures.

Score a black lace dress like Georgina

Looks like Hillary's got the vote of the fashion cognoscenti, in addition to her pull in Hollywood. On Sunday night in New York, designers Vera Wang and Georgina Chapman along with Chapman's husband Harvey Weinstein and Vogue editrix Anna Wintour hosted a fundraiser to show their support for her presidential bid.

Although designers like Jason Wu and Michael Kors were in attendance, we saw a strong showing of support to Georgina's label. She, herself, was wearing the line as well as well as Renee Puente, who was wearing a lace dress from sister brand Marchesa Notte.

There's nothing prettier than a black lace dress and we love Georgina's simple square neckline and plain straps. We also love the tight bodice that gently fans out into a billowing skirt. Unfortunately, this exact dress is not available online. But click right to peruse some other styles by Marchesa.

If you've got Champagne taste on a beer budget, see below. We've rounded up some black lace dresses that will see you through the holidays and beyond.

Co-hosts and power couple Georgina Chapman and Harvey Weinstein arrived separately. Earlier this year, Harvey was involved in a groping scandal with a young model and headlines purported that it wasn't the first time he made inappropriate advances outside of his marriage.

Though she was not captured arriving at the building, Real Housewives of New York City star LuAnn de Lesseps was also at the party, and posed for a picture with the former president inside.

While each individual's donation is unknown, anyone who donated or raised $27,000 or more was offered special one-on-one time with the candidate.

Clinton raked in a whopping $47.5 million for her presidential primary campaign during April, May and June. But in the three months that followed, her numbers dropped off by 41 per cent.

In the year's third quarter that ended September 30, the Democratic frontrunner raised just $28 million.

It's not unusual for a political money train to slow down once a campaign's bloom is off the rose.

But Clinton's financial downshift is also related to her classified email controversy and the rise of Vermont socialist senator Bernie Sanders as a credible contender in New Hampshire.

The hosts for the evening, though, have been longtime Hillary supporters, who have stood by and spoken out in favor of the former Secretary of State in the past.

Vera Wang designed Chelsea Clinton's wedding dress and has been described as a family friend. She designed the bridesmaids' dresses, too, for the 2010 wedding.

Anna Wintour also sang Hillary's praises in a recent Vogue podcast, and put the former First Lady on the cover of the iconic fashion magazine in 1998.

Though a full guest list is not available, Hillary has quite a number of celebrity endorsers behind her. Lena Dunham, Ellen Degeneres, Salma Hayek, and Beyoncé have all spoken out in support of the candidate either in interviews or on social media.

On Saturday, Katy Perry even performed at a rally for Hillary in the swing state of Iowa. She took over her Instagram page, too, sharing snaps of her own Hillary-themed manicure as well as a joint selfie.

Nicknaming the candidate 'Hills', Katy encouraged the crowd at the concert to vote next November, saying: 'So much change can happen. Let's go Hillary!'
