Caring Kate: The Duchess of Cambridge shows her maternal side as she laughs with children on charity visit

  • Kate, 33, paid a visit to a child mentoring programme in north London on Tuesday
  • Looked chic in Orla Kiely dress as she was greeted by cheering crowds and the Mayor of Islington
  • Tonight she will mingle with some of the wealthiest women in the City at 100 Women in Hedgefunds dinner
  • Last night, Kate attended Spectre premiere with Princes William and Harry in London
  • Earlier on Monday, she had a packed day at BAFTA, where she watched film premiere and joined in with activities

She may have had a late night at the star-studded Spectre premiere on Monday night but the hardworking Duchess of Cambridge resumed her royal duties on Tuesday with a visit to a child mentoring programme in north London.

And tonight she is set to shine at a glittering dinner with some of the wealthiest women in the City at the 100 Women in Hedgefunds dinner.

First, however, it was a visit to learn more about the work of Chance UK's early intervention child mentoring programme at an event hosted by the charity at Islington Town Hall.

Wearing a chic grey Orla Kiely dress, Kate, 33, showed no sign of fatigue after last night's Bond premiere and her hilarious 'welly wanging' competition with Princes William and Harry at the BAFTA launch of the new Shaun the Sheep mini movie.

Last week was equally busy with two engagements, including the state banquet, associated with the Chinese State Visit and a day trip to Dundee.

Thrifty Kate chose to recycle a dress from 2012, and the fitted design with pleated skirt highlighted her slender frame.  Kate previously wore the grey pleated dress on an engagement in Dulwich with her father-in-law, Prince Charles, in 2012.

The mother-of-two chose to wear her glossy brunette locks up for the occasion and wore the £1,090 Annoushka Favourite pearl earrings.

Chance UK is a charity which operates an early intervention programme to change the challenging behaviour of primary school-aged children through intensive individual mentoring and family support.

It seeks to improve children's' lives by introducing greater stability and support, and engendering a sense of self-worth.

The programme works with children aged five to 11 who are at risk of developing anti-social or criminal behaviour, providing weekly one to one mentoring with a trained adult volunteer.

Keep it chic in a classic dress by Orla Kiely

The Duchess of Cambridge is a very busy lady. But her hectic schedule can only be a good thing for our closets!

It's been one jaw-droppingly gorgeous Jenny Packham gown after another in the last few weeks, with some brand new outfits by Dolce & Gabbana, Christopher Kane and Tabitha Webb in between. But for today's engagement she turned to an old favorite, proving Kate is still the queen of recycling!

The day after dazzling 007 fans at the premiere of Spectre, she attended an event in London wearing this elegant gray dress by Irish designer Orla Kiely. We love the pleated skirt, bracelet sleeves and delicate floral applique on this design, which she also wore way back in 2012. The shape is super flattering and it's a sophisticated choice that is perfect for the occasion.

It might be all sold out, but Kate's classic style is inspiring us to update our own collection of Duchess-esque dresses. Click the link (right) to shop the current Orla Kiely range, or take your pick from the options in our edit.

Whilst inside chatting to children and their mentors, Kate revealed that her son may be a prince, but he's a typical toddler too.

On an outing last week to the Natural History Museum, lively George apparently ignored the famous dinosaurs - and was more interested in the pigeons outside.

Kate, 33 - who is actually patron of the museum - chatted about her son as she met young people from charity Chance UK which mentors vulnerable children across London at risk of offending.

Meeting the young people inside Islington Town Hall where the charity began 20 years ago, Kate sat down with Carl Goddard 10 from Haringey and his mentor Claire Butler, 29.

Carl showed Kate a picture of him at the Natural History Museum with a fox and said: 'She was telling me that she took George to the Natural History Museum.' Claire added: 'She said that George was more interested in a pigeon they found there rather than all the amazing exhibits.

'Carl told her about the fox that he saw and she was interested in that.'

Carl said: 'I was a bit nervous (to meet her) but when I got my first word out it felt normal. I like coming to Chance and it's helped me to try new things out. I've started to try out new things, for example sushi. 'I was telling her (Kate) about what a good mentor should have.

'She should be empathetic so she can put herself into the child's shoes and think about how they are feeling. And also she should be organised.'

Claire, who has been volunteering as Carl's mentor for five months, added: 'These are all the skills he chose for a good mentor and he explained each one in turn. 'Working with Carl and Chance is fantastic. I have learnt new things as well.'

About Kate's visit she said: 'It's great that she took an interest and came. She was asking a lot of questions.'

Kate also sat down with Faith Buchanan, who is nine next week, and her mentor Elizabeth Little, 33, and saw the picture Faith had drawn and cut out of a princess during a trip to the Museum of Childhood.

Written on the back were qualities Faith thought a princess should have, which caused Kate some amusement.

Faith said: 'On the back I've written about a princess.'

Elizabeth added: 'We pointed out one of the qualities is special powers and she said she wished she had special powers.'

Faith said: 'We were talking about insects and she said George likes them.'

Elizabeth said: 'She said George's favourite was the ladybird. It was amazing to meet her, Faith did all the talking, she was great and (the Duchess) was really interested in the charity.

'She seems very interested in early intervention, which is what the charity does. It's great that she's able to come here and learn more about the work we do.'

One of their success stories is Kessington Ladipo, 22, from Hackney who was on the Chance UK programme in 2004/2005 when he was aged 11.

He was mentored for a year and feels it had a profound impact on his life.

As Kate watched he made a moving speech about the charity.

He said afterwards: 'My life would have been very different if Chance UK hadn't come along.

'I was on the verge of getting excluded and I would have not done my GCSE's or gone to college and it would have been very easy for me to end up hanging around on the street and trying to get comfort from the wrong crowd.

'So I'm really thankful to the charity and for the spotlight that has been put on them today.'

He added: 'The fact the duchess takes an interest in child intervention is really heartening.

'To know that there are people out there who take a genuine interest in the lives of young people.

'Part of my passion is working with young people and helping them see the bigger picture.

'My past is my guideline in helping them shape their lives.'

With a host of Bond Girls to compete with, the Duchess of Cambridge turned on the glitz at the world premiere of the new 007 film Spectre on Monday night.

Appearing to go braless, Kate dazzled in a bespoke diaphanous pale blue full-length gown by her go-to evening wear designer, Jenny Packham.

The elegant dress featured a crossover chiffon front and modest V-neck while the delicate draping at the back of the gown flashed a hint of Kate's lower back.

Meanwhile, an intricate beaded band around the waist helped highlight Kate's slender frame.

it was the third time this year the Princess has chosen to wear British designer Jenny Packham, who has clearly become one of her favourites.

She originally wore the brand back in May when leaving the hospital with Princess Charlotte and then again just recently for the Chinese President's visit to the United Kingdom.

To top off her look, Kate wore a clutch by the same brand, earrings by Robinson Pelham that retail at £14,300 and Jimmy Choo platform heels. Instead of leaving her famous brunette curls down, she pulled them up into an elaborate plaited bun.

At her side - dressed in Bond-style black tie - were her husband, Prince William, and brother-in-law Prince Harry.

As they arrived on the carpet in a chauffeur driven Bentley - not the spy's favoured Aston Martin - the Royal trio were met by the producers of Spectre, Barbara Broccoli (daughter of the late Cubby Broccoli, original producer of the Bond franchise) Michael Wilson, and director Sam Mendes.

The glamorous black tie CTBF Royal Film Performance is held annually in aid of the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund, the charity for the UK Film, cinema and commercial television industries, dedicated to providing support for those working behind the scenes in times of hardship.

Spectre will be the third Bond film chosen as a Royal Film Performance since its inception in 1946.

The royal trio were invited to nominate two further charities to benefit from tonight's performance and chose Shelterbox, which helped with the emergency response following the recent Nepal earthquake, and Save The Children for its work with families fleeing the conflicts in Syria and Iraq and managing the Ebola crisis in West Africa.

Before the performance at the Royal Albert Hall, just a stone's throw from their residences at Kensington Palace, William, Kate and Harry met the stars of the film, notably Daniel Craig, Christoph Waltz, Lea Seydoux, Ben Wishaw, Naomie Harris, David Bautista, Monica Bellucci – at 50, widely billed as the oldest ever Bond Girl – Andrew Scott and Ralph Fiennes.

The royals will also meet trustees and beneficiaries of the CTBF as well as representatives from their own nominated charities. Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli commented: 'We are honoured that Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry will attend the Royal Film Performance of Spectre and delighted the CTBF will be the beneficiary of the event.'

The President of the CTBF, Barry Jenkins OBE, added: 'We are absolutely thrilled that the World Premiere of Spectre has been selected as The CTBF Royal Film Performance 2015 and are most grateful to the Royal Family for their continued support.'

It was a fun and fabulously chaotic affair, which saw the VIP guests take part in a 'welly wanging' competition - Kate admitted her efforts were woeful but William raised his hands in victory - and try their hand at making model Shaun the Sheep.

The events were part of a creative industries-themed event by the royals' Charities Forum, a collection of more than 30 organisations of which William, Kate and Harry are patrons or work closely with. It aims to bring their individual charitable interests together and to explore how they could best lend their support to them all in an effective and efficient way.

Kate, wearing a £375 Tabitha Webb 'Space' dress, was invited up on stage where she gamely joined a group of schoolchildren who were making their own clip with the animators from Shaun's makers, Aardman.

After the audience shouted 'action', Kate, accompanied by one young schoolgirl, did a comedic slow walk and pretended to shut a suitcase into which several other children had pretended to get into earlier.

William couldn't resist heckling his wife, prompting brother Harry to laugh loudly. But the Duchess didn't put a foot wrong and was roundly applauded for her efforts as she walked off the stage laughing.

Before they left the three royals went back onto the stage where they were each presented with a model scene made by some youngsters.
