Hospital staff who cared for Lamar Odom tried to take pictures of the former NBA star as he fought for his life after collapsing in a Nevada brothel, it has been reported.

The estranged husband of Khloe Kardashian was initially treated at the Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas after he was found unresponsive at the Love Ranch with blood coming from his nose and a white substance coming from his mouth.

It is suspected he had been taking drugs and allegedly ran up a tab for $75,000 during his four-night stay at the brothel.

Khloe Kardashian and her family rallied around after learning of Odom's collapse and kept a bedside vigil until he was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles last week.

However, according to TMZ, several staff members who looked after the 35-year-old while he was Sunrise Hospital have been fired after they tried to sneak pictures of him while he lay in a coma.

They report that some of them also tried to access Odom's medical records, which is a direct violation of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) rules.

The hospital told the website: 'We take all patient privacy very seriously and follow all HIPAA policies in compliance with federal regulations.'

It is also understood that after being transferred to Los Angeles to continue his recovery, security is in place guarding him 24 hours a day.

Odom spent almost a week in a coma after being found unresponsive in a bedroom at the brothel owned by reality star Dennis Hof.

He regained consciousness with his wife at his side, and is reported to have told her 'hi baby' as he came round.

Since then he is reported to have undergone several emergency surgeries as part of an 'aggressive' regimen to get him back to health.

While a statement from his family says his condition is improving, contradictory reports have suggested he is now suffering from pneumonia.

Yesterday, new police documents revealed that two prostitues who spent four days at Odom's beck and call suspected he had been taking illegal drugs during his stay.

According to a statement by Detective Michael Eisenloffel, read out in court, Monica Monroe and Ryder Cherry heard 'snorting' coming from Odom's bathroom, and believed he was taking cocaine.

The new information directly contradicts earlier comments from Denis Hof, owner of the Love Ranch where Odom was found unconscious 13 days ago.

Hof has conceded that he knew Odom was taking cocaine before he arrived at the brothel, and also saw the basketball star taking herbal sex stimulants during his stay, but has denied that anyone on his staff knew he was taking illegal drugs.

Odom's blood has been sent for toxicology tests to determine if he had been taking illegal substances at the brothel, though the results are not expected for weeks.

If the tests come back positive, however, then the licence for the Love Ranch is likely to come in for review, and might be revoked.
