Tom Cruise's strict diet 'caused friction' when he shared fridge in house with Mena director Doug Liman during filming

He completed filming on Colombian drug-smuggling drama Mena this summer.

And in a novel approach, Tom Cruise, 53, shared living quarters with the movie's director Doug Liman and scribe Gary Spinelli throughout production.

Sources say that despite each staying on a separate floor in the house, the three men used a communal kitchen and living area - setting the stage for some typical roommate frustrations.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, refrigerator storage became a big bone of contention between the men, mostly down to Cruise's strict healthy diet.

Liman, 50 - who Cruise also worked with on Edge Of Tomorrow - and Spinelli reportedly have more relaxed diets compared to the Hollywood star.

The 1980s drama is currently in post production and follows the true story of Barry Seal (Cruise), an American pilot who worked as a smuggler to infamous drug lord Pablo Escobar.

The daredevil airman made millions of dollars flying almost 60 tons of cocaine into the US in the 1970s and 1980s before turning federal informant and dying in a hail of bullets at the hands of Colombian hit men.

The movie hits theatres in January 2017.

Cruise is known for his youthful looks and honed physique and keeps in tip-top shape for his action roles - most notably the Mission Impossible franchise.

In July the actor's MI: Rogue Nation co-star Simon Pegg revealed a little about the Jerry Maguire star's healthy eating habits.

'Tom is disciplined to a T. It's amazing' the British comedian told E!.

The 45-year-old star added that Cruise offered his chef's services on the set of the fifth installment, explaining: 'it wasn't like boring rabbit food or a protein shake. It was like great stews and these lovely little dates filled with peanut butter and sprinkled with coconut for snacks, and these little balls of truffle that were great'

And debunking rumours that the movie star made the cast follow his strict diet, Pegg said 'He was like, "Here: If you want to do this thing that I do, do it, too." It was all him. It was given to us by him.

'And we totally sort of relished the idea. But occasionally at the end of the day, you'd eat the chocolate on your bed pillow because we couldn't resist it.'
