'OMG! Put me on the spot!' Gwen Stefani shocked after being asked if new song Used To Love You is about Gavin Rossdale... but admits 'it's all very real'

She has put a brave face on the few occasions she has been seen out in public since it emerged her marriage to estranged husband Gavin Rossdale has come to an end.

But on Tuesday, Gwen Stefani could not hide her surprise when asked if her new song Used To Love You is about Gavin and their recent split, while appearing on The Today Show.

'Oh my god!' Gwen, 46, said visibly uncomfortable, 'Put me on the spot! I'm like, "Whoa" Whoa!"'

But she then admitted that the song was written recently and came from a deep personal place.

'I wrote that song a couple weeks ago,' she said appearing to confirm it was about her ex.

And regarding the emotional video that just came out, she explained: 'I sat in front of a camera in a dressing room randomly - not to make a video just to do some background video.'

'It's all very real,' she added.

Turn heads in this braided bomber jacket by Noir Kei Ninomiya

Gwen Stefani stepped out on the streets of NYC putting girls half her age to shame in a bright pink ruffled mini dress. The No Doubt frontwoman kept the rest of her outfit subdued choosing black tights, studded ankle boots, and a satin jacket to complete her look.

The ebony hued bomber is by Noir Kei Ninomiya, a Japanese designer who cut his teeth at Comme des Garçons before launching his own line of conceptual pieces. This particular topper stands apart from the rest due to its intricately braided collar and stitching along the seams.

She appeared to be in fantastic spirits as she made her way inside Jimmy Fallon's studio in the figure-hugging leather dress.

The dark dress featured a cut-out midriff with simple straps and a bra bodice, and hugged the stylish singer's curves.

The couple reportedly did not sign a prenup, and Gavin is said to have agreed to take less than the 50/50 property split he is entitled to under California law, in order to speed up the divorce process.

A judge is expected to sign the final divorce documents by the end of the year.

Earlier on Monday, Gwen appeared on The Ellen Show, where she debuted her latest single Used To Love You, which appeared to have been inspired by her marriage's breakdown.

She gave an emotional performance, singing the song's lyrics 'You go, I'll stay, you can keep all the memories. I thought I was the best thing that ever happened to you, I thought you loved me the most,'
