Absolutely androgynous! Joanna Lumley sports fake moustache and masculine suit as she films wacky Ab Fab movie wedding scenes alongside Jennifer Saunders

Filming recently commenced on the eagerly awaited Absolutely Fabulous movie in the South of France.

And it seems fans of drunk and disorderly duo Patsy Stone and Edina Monsoon are in store for a real treat if the eccentric scenes being filmed last week are anything to go by.

Joanna Lumley, 69, looked on fine form as she donned a menswear suit and faux moustache to portray magazine editor Patsy, no doubt up to one of her hair-brained schemes in her masculine disguise.

She was joined by Jennifer Saunders, 57, who was dressed in her fashionista glad-rags to portray hapless PR Eddie, donning a cream suit and a crazy flower-embellished hat.

The duo were also joined by sitcom regulars June Whitfield as Eddie's mother and Julia Sawalha as her long-suffering daughter Saffy.

The gang were seen leaving a church, throwing confetti in celebration following a fancy society wedding.

There were smiles all around as the gang reunited for the big screen adaptation, three years after the last special episode of the BBC comedy aired.

Little is known about the plot so far or why Patsy was dressed in drag, but it was plain to see the flamboyant best friends haven't changed one bit since viewers last saw them.

The next six weeks will be spent filming in both the UK and the South of France under the watchful eye of director Mandie Fletcher, working from a script by Saunders.

Producers include Saunders' comedy partner Dawn French, who was behind the original Ab Fab sketch.

Jennifer recently revealed the film was the result of a £10,000 bet with Dawn French, who taunted her that she couldn't finish writing it before the end of 2014.

The official synopsis is as follows: 'Edina and Patsy are still oozing glitz and glamour, living the high life they are accustomed to; shopping, drinking and clubbing their way around London’s trendiest hotspots.

'Blamed for a major incident at an uber fashionable launch party, they become entangled in a media storm and are relentlessly pursued by the paparazzi.

'Fleeing penniless to the glamorous playground of the super-rich, the French Riviera, they hatch a plan to make their escape permanent and live the high life forevermore!'

There are expected to be plenty of high-profile guest stars in the film, with the likes of Kate Moss and Emma Bunton making appearances.

Kim Kardashian, Victoria Beckham and Harry Styles have also all been linked to the comedy sequel.
