Kelly said: 'Having reached my goal weight with Atkins and looking back, I can honestly say I have found it so straight forward to stick to. It has just slotted into my day-to-day life, which can be incredibly busy.

'My energy levels have improved, my skin is clearer, my hair looks glossier and to top it off, I feel so much more confident. I can't believe it is just down to simple changes in my diet, like cutting down the amount of sugar I put in my cups of tea.

'I'm going to continue following Atkins to maintain my new shape. It fits in so well with my lifestyle.'

To stick to the diet, Kelly was restricted to just 20g of carbs a day for the first two weeks, which is equal to a piece of fruit and a slice of bread.

The amount of carbohydrate eaten is then increased as the diet progresses.

The Piranha 3D actress used to have two sugars in her tea and eat biscuits while on breaks from filming, but those bad habits are now behind her.

She signed on to the plan after going from a size eight to a size ten to 12 in the last two years. Although she claimed to be happy with her shape, she admits to being pleasantly surprised by all of the other health benefits that came along with the lifestyle change.

'I started Atkins because 2014 was a crazy year for me and I felt I wasn't able to maintain a healthy diet,' she said.

'Whilst working in LA, it was very tempting to reach for naughty treats. I definitely noticed the changes in my body.'

With the festive season just around the corner filled with lurking mince pies and too much mulled wine, Kelly shared what she has learned for staying on track in the lead up to Christmas.

She said: 'I always have an Atkins bar on me so I know I won't reach for the chocolate tin when peckish, a handful of nuts is a great swap too.'

Instead of gorging on hot chocolate and pumpkin spice lattes to keep warm, Kelly advises drinking herbal tea instead and says green tea is her favourite.

When socialising, she said: 'Stick to meat or fish with vegetables when out for dinner or at a party, try the cheeseboard for afters without the crackers.

'For a festive tipple, swap the mulled wine for a spirit and mixer to miss out the carbs – I like a gin and slimline tonic.'
