Defeat is sweet! Holly Willoughby triumphs over co-host Ben Shephard as she smashes This Morning set during welly wanging challenge

She's used to interviewing stars on the sofa.

But ITV's This Morning was a rather more active affair for Holly Willoughby on Tuesday as the 34-year-old tried her hand at welly wanging.

Alongside co-host Ben Shephard, 40, she accepted the challenge of throwing a wellington boot as far as possible - and ended up smashing the set in the process.

The activity came after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, along with Prince Harry, were seen having a go at welly wanging at BAFTA Piccadilly on Monday.

Equipped with a pair of pink wellies each, Holly and Ben discussed how good some of the royals were as Holly confessed: 'I’ve never wanged a welly but I’m going to give it some welly!'

The hosts then got into position at the kitchen desk area and prepared to throw their boot at an array of studio props - including balls of knitted yarn and a pineapple ornament - which was placed on the dining table in front of them.

As Holly held her welly from the toe-end, Ben told her she had 'poor technique' but confident Holly replied: 'Well, Shephard, we shall see!'

The mother-of-three threw her welly and successfully knocked over all props - even sending the pineapple crashing to the floor.

A triumphant Holly declared: 'I did it, I actually did it!' as Ben sat with his head in his hands, before informing Holly that she'd 'smashed the set!'

She said: 'What’s brilliant about this is in rehearsals I was so rubbish and Ben was amazing!'

Ben - clearly bitter from his defeat - replied: 'No one likes a show off Holly Willoughby!'

The pair's challenge follows Kate, William and Harry on Tuesday, when the trio tried their hand at the fun game.

Kate admitted her efforts were woeful but William raised his hands in victory, suggesting he's the master welly wanger.
