Wendy had recently lost her two elderly dogs when she saw the story and realized the hugging pups were still available. So she said to her housemate, Pam, that they should go adopt the two. 'It just fell together,' Wendy explained. 'We turned our tears into smiles with these two young, playful dogs.'

Hundreds of officers and mourning family gathered in Queens, New York on Tuesday as they waited Tuesday to pay tribute to Officer Randolph Holder who was fatally shot last week in Harlem. The suspect, 30-year-old Tyrone Howard, hopped off the stolen bicycle and shot Holder, authorities allege. Howard was taken into custody a few blocks away and has been charged with murder and robbery.

Ele the elephant was captured on video taking her caretaker, Allie, by surprise by going in for a cuddle at Chai Lai Orchid, a nature retreat in a Thai mountain range. As Allie sat cross-legged on the ground, the elephant walked in front of her and leaned to the left (top left). She then suddenly bent her knees and fell to the floor, pushing her head and body into Allie's lap (top right). As the caretaker gasped and burst out laughing, Ele then started snuggling into her (bottom right). Although Allie struggled to get her arms around the elephant (bottom right), she did manage to pat her affectionately.

David Thomas, 50, died alongside his son Stephen, 18, from Swindon when the Leviathan II capsized while whale watching off the Canadian coast. Mr Thomas, was on holiday with his youngest son, who was a talented photographer and won a prestigious international competition last year for people with Down's syndrome. Mr Thomas's wife Julie was also on board the boat at the time of the tragedy and escaped with minor injuries. She is currently being treated in hospital. Her eldest son Paul is currently on his way to Canada to help support his mother.

Montgomery County Police Officer Patrick Robinson and other officers carried out the undercover operation to catch motorists who were texting while driving near an intersection on River Road in Bethesda. Officer Robinson (seen left), who was dressed in shabby clothes and wore gloves, held a sign that read: 'I am not homeless. I am a Montgomery County Police Officer looking for cell phone texting violations.' The officer was equipped with a wireless microphone to alert other police who were waiting down the road to cite the offenders (top right) and also had a camera in case footage of the incident might be needed in court.

The carcasses of 22 elephants - including babies - were discovered in Zimbabwe's Hwange National Park yesterday morning, said Caroline Washaya-Moyo, spokeswoman for the parks and wildlife management authority. The poachers, who apparently killed the elephants with cyanide, escaped with three ivory tusks. The grim finding - made by park rangers yesterday morning - brings the number of elephants poisoned by poachers in the southern Africa country in October alone to a staggering 62.

The Nightmares Fear Factory in Niagara Falls, Ontario, uses hidden cameras to capture visitors' reactions to the haunted house. Pictures of this year's guests show a grown man burying his face in his hands and one guy who looks as if he's about to burst into tears.

Club 33, located at 33 Royal Street in Disneyland California's New Orleans Square, is one of the most exclusive restaurants in the country, where members are required to pay $25,000 to join and annual fees of $10,000. The 'chaveiros' - or 'key holders' - rule Brazil's toughest jails, selling crack cocaine to inmates, charge them taxes, order henchmen to kill those with unpaid debts and pay the guards to turn a blind eye, according to an investigation by Humans Right Watch (HRW). The 'chaveiros' rule the prisons with an iron fist and have control over their cell block with a mandate from bosses to 'maintain order'. While most inmates live in overcrowded sweat boxes, the top dogs have their own private cells with TVs, fridges, fans, bathrooms and even have their own personal servants, known as 'chegados'.

Dogs and cats are known to cuddle up to their human owners, but it's a bit more uprising when man's new best friend leaps out of the ocean. Vincent Fejeran was fishing near the Coronado Bridge in San Diego, California last spring when he says a seal jumped onto his kayak and refused to leave for nearly an hour. The baby seal was so comfortable with Fejeran that he even let the fisherman take video and several pictures of them together during their meet cute.

He gave them green skin and blank eyes, and covered them and their surroundings in blood. Each of the princesses is also posed in a horrifying scene, in which they kill, torture, behead, and disembowel their princes. No character is safe from the chilling undead dolls, who also do their worst to Olaf the snowman (from Frozen), the Seven Dwarfs, and the Genie from Aladdin.

The King's hunting party killed 60 rhinos and tigers on a ten-day expedition when he went to Delhi in 1911 to be crowned Emperor of India, a royal pursuit that might be considered shocking today.
