Michelle Rodriguez is set to play a hitman who becomes a hitwoman in gender-swapping action film Tomboy that will also star Sigourney Weaver 

Michelle Rodriguez has been tapped to star as a transgender ace assassin in the action movie Tomboy, A Revenger's Tale.

The Furious 7 and Machete Kills actress will play a hitman who is double-crossed by gangsters and ends up going under the knife of a rogue surgeon, The Doctor, to be played by Sigourney Weaver.

After The Doctor wields her scalpel, the hitman becomes a hitwoman and then sets out to reap revenge, according to The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday.

The 'gender-swapping action movie', as the trade publication describes it, is slated to start filming November 9 in Vancouver, Canada.

It's slated for a 2017 release.

Initially, actress Frieda Pinto was attached to the project, THR.com said, but not any more.

Tomboy will mark the first time in a while that Rodriguez, 37, who found fame as a boxer in 2000's Girlfight, has sought to carry a movie in a leading role.

Most recently, the Texas-born star has opted to be part of ensemble casts in franchises such as the Fast & Furious films. the Resident Evil and Machete movies and James Cameron's Avatar series.

The Avatar films also star her Tomboy co-star Weaver.

The heroic Ripley of the Alien films, Weaver, 66, continues to work steadily with smaller roles including a return to Ghostbusters for the all-female reboot, Exodus: Gods And Kings, Chappie and the recently-wrapped A Monster Calls with Liam Neeson and Felicity Jones.
