Nice purse! Macho Mickey Rourke shows off his $1,180 Louis Vuitton manbag as he ventures out for meal in Los Angeles

He has always been a man at ease in his own masculinity.

So no wonder Mickey Rourke looked so comfortable carrying a chic little man purse as he went out to lunch in Los Angeles on Thursday.

The Nine And A Half Weeks legend looked in a jolly mood indeed as he got ready to fill his belly at posh Cafe Roma.

The 63-year-old displayed his usual dressed down fashion sense in a grey hooded shirt, tight jeans and white trainers.

But it was the former professional boxer's $1,180 Louis Vuitton Orsay clutch purse that really caught the eye.

It is functional too, as it is the perfect place for the modern metrosexual man to keep his wallet, keys and mobile phone.

And he even toughened it up with a carabiner - the perfect manly alternative to a handbag charm.

While there may be a few naysayers, Mickey is in good company when it comes to carrying a manbag.

For such masculine luminaries as Real Madrid icon Cristiano Ronaldo, REM beefcake Michael Stipe and even his fellow former professional pugilist Chris Eubank have been spotted out and about carrying their purses.

This did not stop Mickey disposing of his trendy purse later on when he headed to a salon in the city,

No doubt he was meeting up with his faithful hairdresser sidekick Giuseppe Franco, who he is often seen out and about with on his adventures.

But life is not all leisurely lunches and afternoon strolls for Mickey, who is worth an estimated $15 million.

For he is gearing up to play a gay rugby player from Ireland in a film called Irish Thunder.

In the picture he will play a fearless athlete named Mick 'The Blade' Collins, on the verge of revealing a deep secret he has kept hidden his entire life.

Hopefully no one mistakes the actor's choice of accessory as a sign he is going soft however.

For last year he raised eyebrows by buying a T-shirt bearing the image of fellow hardman Vladimir Putin in Russia back.

'I like this guy,' the Moscow Times reported Mickey said of the Russian President.
