The boyfriend of pop star Jennifer Ellison today denied a public order offence following an alleged street row with a policewoman.

Tony Richardson, 25, appeared before Liverpool Magistrates and pleaded not guilty to using threatening or abusive words or behaviour, or acting in a disorderly manner.

The charge, under Section 5 of the Public Order Act, relates to an alleged incident in the Old Swan area of Liverpool when a WPC told Richardson and his famous girlfriend to move their car from a double yellow line.

Dressed in a white T-shirt, blue tracksuit trousers and white trainers, Richardson spoke only to give his personal details and enter his not guilty plea.

Reporting restrictions were lifted following an application by Richardson's legal team.

Speaking outside court, his solicitor Len Font said: "The incident itself was witnessed by many members of the local public in Old Swan.

Representatives of the couple have said that they feel Richardson did not deserve to be arrested but was the victim of officious and aggressive policing.
