Long journeys can do strange things to a person. 

Some travellers, it seems, cannot get through a journey without performing a bizarre ritual or carrying something odd with them - like a picture of a dead cat or a stuffed hamster.

Jennifer Aniston - enters plane with right foot first

It is not unknown to have plane superstitions and actress Jennifer Aniston is no exception. 

Every time she enters a plane the Friends star is said to ensure she enters with her right foot first. 

In addition to this, she is said to always tap the outside of the aircraft for good luck.

Most travellers have their own rituals when it comes to getting the perfect night's sleep while away - and rapper Eminem is no exception.

He is said to require a completely dark bedroom when he checks into a hotel. 

If the room isn't completely absent of light, he requests staff black out the windows.

'I am superstitious about where I sit on flights,' she told MailOnline Travel. 'For a long time, if I wasn't over the wing, in a window seat, or on the right hand side of the plane, I'd be nervous to fly.'

Not only this but she has a routine as soon as she touches back down after her trips. 

She continued: 'I call southern California home and whenever I return from an international trip, I go straight to In N Out Burger. It's become a superstition for me where I'm afraid that if I don't go, it'll bring bad luck.'

Some of the weirdest travel confessions actually involve items holidaymakers pack in their suitcases from home.

Pictures of dead cats, a set of dumbbells and a loved one's ashes are among the top 10 strangest items travellers admit to carrying in their luggage, according to a survey.

Based on survey responses from UK-based baggage delivery company sendmybag.com, which carried out the study, they compiled the 10 strangest items holidaymakers pack in their suitcases.

More unusual items include a one-and-a-half-foot wall clock, the sound of which helped the OAP owner sleep; a set of dumbbells; a husband's ashes in an urn and a bag containing sheared sheep's wool.

THE TOP TEN WEIRDEST ITEMS TAKEN ON A PLANE 

1. Framed pictures of dead cats: A woman in her 40s from Sheffield took the pictures abroad as she regarded them as 'part of the family' and liked to put them up in her room. 

2. A wall clock: A pensioner from Devon liked to fall asleep to the sound of her ticking clock, so always packed it in her suitcase despite it having an diameter of one and a half feet. 

3. A set of dumbbells: A man from Leeds wouldn't go anywhere without a set of dumbbells to supplement his daily morning workout. 

4. Husband's ashes in an urn: A widow from Lanarkshire said she took them everywhere to keep her late husband close by. 

5. 24 multipack of Walker's Worcester sauce crisps: A man from Hereford was obsessed with the flavour and ate at least two packets a day.

6. A plastic carrier bag full of sheared sheep's wool: A woman from Leicestershire said she 'finds the texture comforting' so keeps some close to hand at all times. 

7. Bondage whips and chains: A man from Cambridge said he and his wife had an 'exotic sex life' which they maintained even on holiday. 

8. A fire extinguisher: A man from Derby with extreme pyrophobia always packed one in the event of emergency from force of habit as well as for peace of mind. 

9. A stuffed hamster: A woman in her 20s from Taunton said she took her late pet with her wherever she went after. 

10. Approximately 15 'lucky rabbit's feet': A man from Liverpool with a fear of flying took the feet with him as in-flight good luck charms to ensure a safe landing.

Taking tea and bacon from home 

Almost half of Britons take teabags with them when they go on holiday, according to a poll by the My Travel Cash payment card. 

It's the most popular home comfort taken abroad, according to a survey, which also found that one person in 20 takes a packet of bacon with them.

One in eight people take lavatory paper – the same proportion who take biscuits – one in five take coffee, four per cent pack a jar of Marmite, and three per cent take a tin of baked beans.

Bisto gravy granules, cheddar cheese, vinegar, mustard and Oxo cubes were also found to be holiday essentials for a minority of travellers.

These are some of the most bizarre flying habits revealed by travellers in a survey conducted by holiday booking site Wotif  

1. I shake a small amount of salt over the check-in area

4. 'Jet plane Champagne' — putting a jet plane lolly in a glass of bubbly

5. I have to do everything three times: light switches, check bags and tickets
