Road warrior! Norman Reedus of The Walking Dead to get his own biker-themed show

In The Walking Dead we see him battling zombies as the crossbow-wielding Daryl Dixon.

Now Norman Reedus, 46, is getting his own show - and it's nothing to do with the undead.

The new ABC program will be a departure for the actor - as it will be non-fiction and star himself and friends.

Over the course of The Walking Dead, the motorcycle riding Norman has become one of the iconic images of the show and among the fans' favorite characters.

Now Norman's new show, tentatively titled Ride With Norman Reedus, will follow the avid ride as he travels around America exploring motorcycle culture with different companions.

The series will take the form of six one hour episodes, all of which have already been filmed.

AMC, the network that airs The Walking Dead, is excited to give Norman the opportunity to show fans a passion of his, according to the president of original programming and development Joel Stillerman.

'We love being the home of people’s passion projects, and there is nobody more passionate about motorcycles than Norman Reedus,' he said.

Stillerman went on to add that Norman's enthusiasm was part of the driving force for the development of the new show.

'He is an avid rider and aficionado who is deeply immersed in motorcycle culture,' he said.

'There is also nobody more fun to hang out with. This show will bring those two elements together for a weekly ride into the incredible world of motorcycles and the people who live and breathe them.'

As for Norman, he appears to be showing more excitement for the project than his fans may be accustomed to seeing from his downcast character from The Walking Dead.

'I’m incredibly excited and thankful to AMC for giving me the opportunity to share a passion of mine with our fans, and hopefully a whole new audience. I had a lot of fun filming and exploring, and I hope it shows.'

Entertainment Weekly pointed out that the presence of the new show doesn't necessarily mean they will be killing off the Daryl Dixon character in the Walking Dead as some had feared; there's been plenty of time during hiatus to film the shorter reality series.

Norman recently briefly departed The Walking Dead to shoot another moody project, the crime drama Triple 9, which is about a gang of corrupt cops working together to pull off a heist.

Grateful: 'I’m incredibly excited and thankful to AMC for giving me the opportunity to share a passion of mine with our fans, and hopefully a whole new audience. I had a lot of fun filming and exploring, and I hope it shows,' shared Norman via a press release
