If the tale of the search for the lost underground city of Akakor and its Ugha Mongulala tribe sounds like the script for an Indiana Jones movie - it's because it was used as the basis for the last film, The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull. Said to have been located in the heart of the Amazon, the civilisation was first mentioned in 1972 by a man called Tatunca Nara (top right with bow and arrows), who claimed to be from the ancient society. He was keen to show people the city and is thought to have led several expeditions to it in the 1970s. Three people on these trips died, though Nara claimed he wasn't with them when they perished. The fantastical details were documented in Brugger's book The Chronicles Of Akakor, which was published in 1972 (bottom right).

A Japanese tourist was left severely disappointed after he travelled nearly 6,000 miles to visit a famous bridge ñ but couldnít find it. Taichi Kondo visited Warrington last year hoping to take photographs of the Warrington Transporter Bridge, which is the last remaining rail transporter bridge in the world. After searching the Cheshire town and the surrounding area for the bridge, which despite being more than 76ft high is notoriously hard to find, he admitted defeat and returned home. Mr Kondo discovered the Friends of Warrington Transporter Bridge website when he was back in Japan and, before returning to the UK last month, asked travelling partner Riyo Okiyama to contact the community group for directions. Happily, the pair were much luckier on their second attempt and took snaps of the 1915-built grade two listed bridge over the River Mersey to prove they had made it.
