Simon Cowell didn't have the start to this year's X Factor live shows, losing his act Bupsi Brown and being headbutted by another one of his contestants, Anton Stephans.

The show boss was supported behind-the-scenes by his devoted partner Lauren Silverman, who no doubt helped cheer up the glum-looking star following Sunday's results show.

The striking brunette was spotted leaving the ITV studios in London alongside Simon, 56, as the pair headed home to their 20-month-old son Eric.

Lauren, 38, was dressed to impress in a glittering black top with a seriously plunging neckline, going braless under the daring number.

The American beauty teamed the spangled garment with a pair of faded grey skinnies and simple black stilettos.

Simon followed close behind his girlfriend, looking a little down in the dumps as he lit a cigarette.

The music mogul was putting on a brave face following an embarrassing results show for him.

Following the news of yet another ratings slump, Simon suffered another blow on Sunday night’s results show - quite literally this time since he was headbutted by one of his acts.

The 56-year-old music mogul was almost knocked out by Anton when the exuberant singer planted a smacker on his lips upon discovering he was through to next week.

The painful kiss saw the Over 25’s mentor recoil in shock, clutching his nose in pain and looking utterly baffled by what had just occurred.

It was a double blow for Simon since he then discovered his mentee Bupsi was the first act to be leaving the ITV competition, having received the least public votes.

The mortified head judge didn’t seem to be able to take the news in properly after the traumatic faux-pas.

Sunday night's results show also saw girl band Alien Uncovered get the boot after losing out to Kiera Weathers in the sing-off.

The results show kicked off with a rousing rendition of new One Direction track Perfect courtesy of the 13 finalists, who include Wild Card Monica Michael.

Also putting in a welcome appearance were 2011 winners Little Mix and pop princess Ellie Goulding, both serenading the studio audience with their latest singles.

This comes after the show was hit with another ratings disaster after an average audience of 5.6 million viewers tuned in to watch the first live show.

According to overnight figures, the episode attracted a peak audience of 6.5 million (29%) from 8pm, while Strictly Come Dancing had nearly 4 million more viewers.

An X Factor source told MailOnline: ‘Audience figures go up when recorded viewing is factored in, and that X Factor is averaging 8.8 million viewers for the series.’

They also added that The X Factor had a higher number of younger viewers, 16-34s, watching.

According to BARB's figures, Strictly Come Dancing continues to trounce the ITV show, which averaged 9.35 million (45.9%) from 6.35pm for its Halloween special.

There was a 15 minute overlap between the two entertainment programmes with Strictly peaking with 9.9 million viewers.

Last weekend, the ITV talent show was down almost by one million as it attracted an average overnight audience of 6.12m (25.5%).

At the time, television mogul Simon said he was feeling more optimistic about the situation, describing BARB's rating figures as 'meaningless'.

He told Radio Times that the way the figures are calculated, using the results of 5,000 homes, is now out of date and doesn't account for viewers who watch the show on catch-up.

'If you look at everything at the moment you are seeing a pattern here,’ he explained. ‘Strictly is in the sevens, we are in the sevens, our peak was higher than theirs.

'There is no question of a doubt, this applies to all shows at the moment, people are definitely changing their viewing habits.

'We are adding two or three million on the week’s figures which is taking us up to nine-and-a-half which in this day and age is a miracle.'
