They were thought to be 'casually dating' after they both recently split from their other halves.

But The X Factor host Olly Murs, 31, has denied claims he's wooing the show's former contestant, Diana Vickers, 24.

Laughing off the rumours at the Music Industry Trust Awards on Monday night, he told the Mirror: 'It's so ridiculous. It's a load of rubbish!'

The Essex lad - who, like Diana, is a former X Factor contestant - added that the pair have spoken about it since and laughed it off together.

He elaborated: 'Me and Diana are friends, we've known each other a long time. We laughed about it. What? We're casually dating? No, we're not. We find it funny.'

Olly was believed to be making the most of his new-found single status after splitting from long-term girlfriend Francesca Thomas last month.

He was thought to be 'having fun' with the newly-single blonde, The Sun adding that they have a 'obvious attraction' to one another.

A source told the newspaper: 'They’ve always had a soft spot for each other. Now since they are both single they have been in touch.

'They're just fooling around at the moment and having a laugh with each other. Neither wants anything serious as they have both just come out of long-term relationships.'

MailOnline has approached Olly's and Diana's management for comment.

One thing in common: Diana, 24, made it to the semi-finals of The X Factor in 2008 while the Essex-born singer-turned-presenter was the runner-up in the 2009 series

It's not clear where or how the pair met as they appeared on the ITV talent show a year between each other - Olly was the runner-up in 2009 and Diana bowed out at the semi-finals stage in 2008.

However, they're both regulars on the London party scene.

The claims come weeks after the Dear Darlin' hit-maker and his girlfriend-of-three-years Francesca called time on their relationship as he struggled to make time for her due to his packed-out work schedule.

Olly and Francesca, 26, had been dating since 2012 after first meeting at V Festival in his native Essex.

Meanwhile, Diana is said to have split from long-term boyfriend George Craig who she's been dating since the beginning of 2011.

The couple were last pictured together in a fashion campaign for London designer Joshua Kane.
