'I regret hanging out with him': Adele wishes she'd never asked her childhood idol Damon Albarn to collaborate with her on new album 25

She recently confessed she had scrapped half the songs on her new album, including collaborations with Damon Albarn and Phil Collins, because they were too 'boring'.

And Adele has now revealed she 'regrets' asking Blur frontman Damon to work with her on her long-awaited third record, 25, even going as far as to say she wishes the pair had never met.

The Hello hitmaker candidly told Brian Hiatt in the new issue of Rolling Stone magazine: 'It ended up being one of those "don’t meet your idol" moments.

'The saddest thing was that I was such a big Blur fan growing up. But it was sad, and I regret hanging out with him.'

Adele admitted the pair didn't even finish one song together during their studio sessions last year.

'None of it was right. None of it suited my record', she added.

The 27-year-old star's comments come after Albarn hinted last September that he was annoyed with Adele for wasting his time, describing the sound she was aiming for as 'very middle of the road’.

He told The Sun at the time: 'Adele asked me to work with her and I took the time out for her. Will she use any of the stuff? I don’t think so.

‘The thing is she is very insecure. And she doesn’t need to be.’

Adele - who welcomed a son named Angelo in October 2012 with her partner Simon Konecki - has taken particular umbrage Damon's claims she's 'insecure'.

She added to Rolling Stone: 'I was asking his opinion about my fears, about coming back with a child involved – because he has a child – and then he calls me insecure?'

MailOnline has contacted Albarn's representatives for a comment.

Adele's album, set for release on November 20, has reportedly cost as much as £4 million to make, with at least half of that sum wasted on material which didn’t make the final cut.

A source previously told the Mail On Sunday: ‘Every theme she has had in the past has been a broken relationship and a sad life, and then there she is at 22 with ten Grammys, an Oscar, a Golden Globe, millions of pounds as well as a partner and a baby.

‘Everything in her personal life was going right so everything in her creative life was going wrong. She basically lost direction and lost inspiration.

'She approached a lot of big names in the industry for help and they stepped in. But then she cast aside the work. That’s left a lot of big names furious.’

Meanwhile, Phil Collins - who says he was personally approached by Adele - described the vocal powerhouse as a ‘slippery little fish' when she scrapped the material they worked on.

Adele has been honest about her difficulties penning her comeback record, explaining that she struggled to find inspiration.

‘I wrote a lot of songs that didn’t make the album because they simply weren’t good enough', she told BBC Radio 1.

‘I did pretty much write an album about being a mum, but that’s boring, so I scrapped it. I thought I’d run out of ideas.’
