Top aide to Hillary Clinton Huma Abedin took time off from the campaign trail to enjoy a rare public night out with her sex pest husband Anthony Weiner.

The pair posed for pictures on the red carpet as they attended the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards in New York City on Monday.

The 39-year-old looked downcast as she stopped for the cameras in a patterned silk dress with her dark hair down, flowing around her shoulders.

She accessorized her outfit with a large pair of diamond earrings and wore her signature red lipstick.

Abedin came on the arm of her husband, who she married in 2010, but became embroiled in a series of sex scandals.

In 2011 he posted an explicit picture of himself via his public Twitter account to another woman. Huma was pregnant with their son Jordan, the couple's only child, at the time.

Two years later, after he entered the New York mayoral race, more explicit pictures emerged which he allegedly sent to other women.

However, despite the scandals, the couple have remained together.

Family time: Abedin and Weiner married in 2010 and have a son together. Weiner, who once stood as a candidate for New York mayor has been embroiled in a number of sex scandals. The family is pictured together on a rare outing as a threesome in April in New York at a Mexican restaurant

Meanwhile, the Clinton aide is no stranger to fashion and is thought to be close to American Vogue editor Anna Wintour, after the pair hosted a $1000-a-ticket party in Paris to try and drum up support for the Clinton campaign.

Wintour also co-hosted an event for Clinton last week at the Park Avenue home of Vera Wang and Vogue has done features and glossy photoshoots with both Hillary Clinton and her daughter Chelsea.

However, Huma's sartorial choices have sparked controversy after she was pictured wearing a dress by a British designer at the Democratic debate last month.

Arriving for the event in Las Vegas, Abedin was seen wearing an L.K Bennett Lasa poppy dress - a style identical to the one worn by the Duchess of Cambridge during last year's Australian tour.

Also attending the Vogue Fashion Foundation Awards last night were actresses Demi Moore and Amanda Seyfried alongside singer Lorde.
