Posing in her swimsuit on the edge of a lap pool, against a backdrop of lush tropical foliage, it's clear Alyssa Milano is having a good vacation.

But as she showed off her post-baby body in her swimwear, the actress made it clear she doesn't always look this good.

'I'm sucking it in,' joked the 42-year-old, who has been honest about the effects of pregnancy and motherhood on her figure.

While expecting her second child - daughter Elizabella who was born a year ago - Alyssa spoke bluntly about her views on modern standards of beauty.

'A female body is not made to look good in a bikini,' she told the magazine Fit Pregnancy. 

'It's made to give birth and have a baby and be a cozy companion for it afterward. And for my body, that meant putting on a lot of weight.'

She continued: 'I didn't indulge in fast food or junk food, so I knew it was a healthy weight. I just realized: "This is what my body needs to do to have a healthy baby."'

'We don't get hungry when we're pregnant for no reason,' says Alyssa, who has also been outspoken about normalising breast-feeding.

Along with her now one-year-old daughter, the Mistresses star also has a four-year-old son Milo.

And after a fun Halloween - in which they all chose outfits inspired by the movie Despicable Me - it seems they have decamped for a welcome break.

Alyssa also posted other snaps of herself enjoying her well earned rest, sunbathing in a straw hat by an infinity pool.

'Bliss,' she wrote, and 'vacation,' adding a host of suitably tropical emojis.
