Carly and The View bury the hatchet after host who said Fiorina's face looked 'demented' at the debate admits it 'a poor choice of words'

  • Comedienne Michelle Collins copped to making 'a poor choice of words' when she said Fiorina looked 'demented' as she smiled into the camera
  • And Fiorina told Whoppi Goldberg, who tisk-tisked for reacting poorly, 'You can say whatever you like. You're not going to offend me'
  • The women of The View and Fiorina got into an argument about Planned Parenthood harvesting fetal parts - she said it did, Goldberg said it didn't
  •  In the end, Goldberg told her 'you are a very wonderful woman; Fiorina told her, 'And so are you Whoopi...I am a big fan of your movies'

Carly Fiorina and the cast of The View made amends today on the show, ending a dispute that began last week when one of the hosts mocked the Republican's facial expression at the GOP debate.

During the broadcast, which Fiorina appeared on remotely, comedienne Michelle Collins copped to making 'a poor choice of words' when she said Fiorina came off 'demented' when she smiled into the camera during the first minutes of the debate.

Fiorina likewise told Whoppi Goldberg, who tisk-tisked her this week for reacting poorly to the comment, 'You're a comedian. You can say whatever you like. You're not going to offend me.'

Goldberg gave Fiorina an opportunity to 'clear the air' at the top of the show telling her, 'We know you took issue with something said last week. What's happening, girl?'

'I've been called all kinds of things. A bimbo from the time I was a secretary to the time I was a CEO. I think we need to be able to have civil conversations in the country about our differences, as well as about the things that unite us. I think all too often we demonize a messenger because we don't like the message,' she replied.

Fiorina told her, 'So I’d just like to have a conversation about where we agree and where we disagree. I think there's a lot of common ground between Americans I think Americans are concerned that we're very divided. And Americans want to come together around where we have found common ground.'

'It's why I'm running for president, actually.'

The hosts and Fiorina chatted happily for a few minutes, but the temperature rose a few degrees on set after the GOP presidential candidate asserted that Americans of all political ideologies are 'horrified by the reality that we're harvesting baby parts through late-term abortions.'

'Carly, I need to stop you. Because that is not -- you know that's not true,' Goldberg told her.

Fiorina stood her ground.

'You asked me a question,' she said, as Goldberg told her, 'No one is harvesting baby parts...Come on, girl.'

Fiorina told her, That's interesting that Planned Parenthood just announced they were no longer going to take compensation for that.'

Goldberg again told her, 'they were not harvesting baby parts,' before letting the whole thing go, and telling her, 'You have the floor. My bad.'

'That offends my sensibility to hear you say something like that when you know it's not true,' Joy Behar said before they moved on.

During the broadcast, which Fiorina appeared on remotely, comedienne Michelle Collins copped to making 'a poor choice of words' when she said Fiorina came off 'demented' when she smiled into the camera during the first minutes of the debate

During a discussion about the CNBC debate, Fiorina noted that she was one of the only candidates who didn't complain about the moderators and insisted, 'I've gotten used to unfair questions from the media. It's the way it is. If you can't handle a tough question or you can’t handle an unfair question, you really shouldn't be president of the United States.'

At that point Goldberg brought her disagreement with the show back up and suggested she needed to get 'thicker skin.'

'Well, hey, if you meant your comment about my face being demented and a Halloween mask as humorous, so be it,' she said, adding, ' I guess you misinterpreted Donald Trump's comments about my face and thought those weren’t humorous. Because you sort of took him to task.'

Behar said it's one thing for trump to make a 'nasty' comment about her looks and another thing for her to comment on Fiorina's face.

Collins was the one who said Fiorina looked demented, but Behar took it a step further during the broadcast last week and teasingly said Fiorina's face could be a Halloween mask.

'You know what, Joy? You can say whatever you want. You always have. You always will. I'm not going to stop that,' Fiorina told her. 'And don't worry. I have skin plenty thick enough to the take whatever people throw at me.'

She declared, 'I'm making a different point. The different point is this. I think that there are real issues in this nation that we ought to be able to discuss in a fact-based, civil fashion.'

'Absolutely,' Goldberg said.

Fiorina at that point stated, 'You're a comedian. You can say whatever you like. You're not going to offend me.'

Collins then said, 'I want to add that the demented comment was a poor choice of words.'

'It was responding to something you said during the debates. That people were telling you the smile more. To me, it felt like it was not your natural state of mind. It was not on your looks, it was on your expression. It felt like you were being told to smile more.'

She asked her, 'Is that difficult for you. Do you have people coaching you to act or be a different way? Will that help you win the election?'

Fiorina likewise told Whoppi Goldberg, who tisk-tisked her this week for reacting poorly to the comment, 'You're a comedian. You can say whatever you like. You're not going to offend me'

Fiorina dismissed the notion that she had people coaching her, despite noting during the debate that she'd generally been told she didn't smile enough after the previous prime time talk-fest, and told Collins, 'I am who I am. And I love to smile and laugh. There's a time to smile and there’s a time to be serious.'

Before they concluded the interview, Goldberg told her she was taken aback by Fiorina's comments disparaging The View last week - Fiorina said they were 'liberal feminists and wouldn't have trashed Hillary Clinton's features - and accused her of starting a 'fake feud' with the show.

'I think The View garnered a lot of publicity over the feud as well. I think that's why you have me on your show at the top of the hour,' she said.

Goldberg told her it's not like they put out ads or anything hyping Fiorina's appearance on the show, though.

Paula Farris pointed out that Fiorina 'used the unfortunate situation with Donald Trump' to her benefit, as well, and said, 'You were making lemonade out of lemons.'

'You're using the feud with The View as part of a fund-raising campaign. There is a video going out. You're clearly trying to make lemonade out of lemons,' she said.

Fiorina quipped, 'So you're telling me you're lemons?'

'No. That is funny, actually,' Farris said.

Behar said, 'Very good, very good.'

In the end, Goldberg told Fiorina 'you are a very wonderful woman' and said, 'we’re so glad you came back with us.'

Fiorina told her, 'And so are you Whoopi, so are you. I am a big fan of your movies.'

'And I am a big fan of my movies as well. Thank you for being here,' Goldberg responded.

'We can agree. We have common ground,' Fiorina said.
