Introducing Mrs Jolie Pitt: Angelina confirms new surname as it appears on the posters for her movie with husband Brad, By The Sea

They married in a secret ceremony last summer in front of their six children.

But over a year on from their blissful wedding day, Angelina Jolie has subtly confirmed she's taken her husband Brad Pitt's name, as the couple promote their new film together.

The publicity material for their big screen drama By The Sea credits Angelina, who has also written and directed the film, as Angelina Jolie Pitt - the first time she has used her new surname for a project.

Angelina and Brad are currently promoting By The Sea, which marks the first feature they have starred in together since they met on the set of 2005's Mr & Mrs Smith.

The posters for the drama announce that the drama is 'written and directed by Angelina Jolie Pitt.'

While the actress married her partner of nine years last summer, it's the first time she has been credited under her married name for a film.

Steal Angelina Jolie's sophisticated style in a simple column dress

She may have had a wild old past but megastar Angelina Jolie could also write the book on super sophisticated evening attire. So if you're ever looking for elegant inspiration for a floor length number then she's the one to channel.

Angelina chose to wear a frock by Tom Ford for the WSJ Innovators awards ceremony. As simple as it is elegant, it is column shaped with a bandeau neckline with contrast tuxedo style piping and slide slits to make it fashion forward and contemporary.

Boohoo has played a blinder on this one and has two gorgeous options for only $16 - about 100 times less than the Tom Ford version. The Keepsake dress at ASOS is also a winner and if you want a more casual version, then Nation's will do nicely!

Angelina was previously married to Jonny Lee Miller from 1996 to 1999 and Billy Bob Thornton from 2000 to 2003, but did not take their surnames.

In By The Sea, Angelina and Brad play a married couple whose relationship is on the brink of collapse.

They shot the film in the weeks after their low key wedding in the South of France last August, which the 40-year-old actress described this week as 'very casual'.

In a new interview with the New York Times, the Hollywood star talked about the day she tied the knot with her partner of nine years, saying it was 'just a nice thing' in comparison to the day they became co-parents of two of their adopted kids.

She explained: 'The ceremony was in France, but we had to do things legally in California,

'One day I was in the edit room, and [Brad] was doing something and an assistant said, "You have to sign some papers."'

She added 'So we came back and between meetings we were told, "Here's your license." Then someone said, "The judge is outside."

'We both said, "What do you mean, the judge is outside?" Then the judge came in, this lovely guy, and at some point, Brad said, "Shouldn't we be standing up?" The judge said, "No." Then suddenly we realized we were married, in the most unceremonial way possible.'

Of course, the actual ceremony in August 2014 took place on the couple's private estate in the South of France where the actress wore a stunning Versace gown with a veil adorned with her children's artwork.

But the moment that was most special for the Maleficent star, however, was the day that the duo became official co-parents of son Maddox and daughter Zahara.

Angelina remembered: 'For me, the big moment was when [we] signed the [joint adoption] papers for Maddox and Zahara. That was a decision to parent together, to commit to being a part of each other's lives for the rest of my life. So [marriage] wasn't close in comparison. In a way, it was very casual.'
