She's strut her stuff in five Victoria's Secret shows to date, and Australian beauty Shanina Shaik has proved exactly why she's been asked back time and time again.

The 24-year-old model strapped on a pair of oversized butterfly wings for a jaw-dropping ethereal look as she took the New York runway by storm for the luxe lingerie brand's annual fashion show on Tuesday.

Glowing as she sashayed down the hallowed catwalk, the stunner - who is of Lithuanian and Pakistani descent - slipped her lithe figure into a sexy black bodysuit with a lace trim around the bust.

Shanina's ensemble was finished off with a choker style necklace, black and scarlet bracelet and matching pair of stud earrings.

Letting her naturally flawless complexion speak for itself, she wore very natural looking makeup and had her long locks flow loose over her shoulders in cascading waves.

The raven-haired stunner is stepping out for the fourth time this year after making her debut for the brand in 2011 at age 20.

She follows in the footsteps of a string of Australian beauties including Miranda Kerr, Jessica Hart, Elyse Taylor, Sarah Stephens and Abbey-Lee Kershaw, who have previously graced the catwalk.

Fellow Antipodean Bridget Malcolm is also adding her name to the list this year as she makes her debut alongside fellow newcomers and fashion giants Gigi Hadid, and Kardashian offspring Kendall Jenner.

This year, the show is including a total of 75 outfits and 35 wings, with musical guests Selena Gomez, Ellie Goulding, and The Weeknd entertaining the lucky few witnessing the event live.

Meanwhile backstage, the models have been fuelling up by snacking on wholegrain sandwiches, veggie root chips, fruit, bottled water and black coffee.

Speaking to KIISFM on Tuesday - Wednesday morning Australian time - Shanina revealed the beauties are given dinner before the show saying: 'We need to keep our energy up so it's important that we do eat.'

In preparation for the showcase, the brunette has been sticking to a strict, mostly vegan diet high in protein.

She told Sunrise: 'I like to eat a lot of protein and vegetables, [and] drink lots of water,' before confessing that she indulges her sweet tooth from time to rime.

'I love my food, I love chocolate, I like ice cream, so I'll eat it every now and then.'

She added to KIISFM that she was feeling a little anxious about stepping out in her underwear.

'I'm really excited for the show to finally begin. I always get a bit nervous, I think it's natural to get a bit nervous and being in your lingerie,' she said.

After weeks of getting runway ready, Shanina was sure to add that she feels prepared saying: 'There's been a lot of preparation, obviously a lot of working out, a lot of fittings and now it's finally here so it's exciting.

'All of us girls have been working so hard training our bodies and working out and looking after ourselves. It can be really hard, it's hard our job - a lot of people think it's such a glamorous thing but it's really hard, it's a 24/7 thing.'

And the hard work hasn't only been in a disciplined diet and exercise regime as Shanina has also been labouring over what pose to do at the end of the catwalk.

The Australian will be reunited her boyfriend DJ Ruckus, to celebrate her performance after the show as he will be providing the entertainment at a VS after party for one of the label's regulars, Adriana Lima.

Before taking to the runway, Shanina was one of the bevy of beauties preparing in hair and makeup backstage.

Dressed in the brand's signature pink robes - which are customised every year and reserved exclusively for the models - she was seen with her long locks pinned back and secured with a hair net.

She was also wearing a delicate gold angel wing necklace by Swarovski, a good luck charm of hers.

Shanina revealed last month that she had been selected to take part after absolutely stunning in the 2014 show, and excited wrote on social media: 'I'm so incredibly happy & honored to announce that I have been chosen to walk in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2015.'

Since then she has been training hard to prepare for the much-watched event that annually features the biggest names in modelling.

Documenting some of her workouts on social media, it's clear the model has been focusing on her core with plenty of modified plank exercises and routines on the Pilates Reformer machine.

Yoga has also been a part of her regimen as she stretches out to get runway ready.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia in August this year, Shanina said she was definitely keen on returning to the runway for Victoria's Secret.

'I hope so yeah. The show's coming up again this year so it's going to be super exciting and all the girls will be trying out for the show coming October,' she said.

The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show will be aired on TV in December.
