SEBASTIAN SHAKESPEARE: Health food queen Ella celebrates engagement

Just days after health food guru Ella Woodward was attacked by a horde of veggie fans for opening a meat- serving deli, the 23-year-old was able to enjoy herself.

The daughter of Tory turncoat Shaun Woodward lived up to her sobriquet Deliciously Ella as she beamed with joy in a red lace dress next to her smiling fiance Matthew Mills, son of Tessa Jowell, at their engagement party in London.

'I've really never felt so much love and happiness,' Ella Woodward reflected on her engagement party

'I've really never felt so much love and happiness,' Ella Woodward reflected on her engagement party

'All our friends and family were there and Matthew and I catered the party with our new company, the Mae Deli, which was great,' she tells me.

'On a weekend filled with such hatred it felt really special to celebrate our love and engagement with all our favourite people.

'My best friends came over from New York to go wedding dress shopping with me, my family came in from all over the world for our party and I've really never felt so much love and happiness.'

A gold cup legend's very racy memoir

The forthcoming memoirs of much-loved racehorse trainer Henrietta Knight, 68, who won the Cheltenham Gold Cup three years in a row with Best Mate, should carry a government health warning.

Not only does the book include a saucy topless snap of Henrietta posing at her Wantage stables, she also reveals that she and her late husband, former champion jockey Terry Biddlecombe, had a pre-race tradition the night before Best Mate’s famous triumphs.

Knight writes: ‘Terry was always a very passionate lover and lived for sex. In later years, he used to say to me: “Any place, any time.” Though he didn’t always get his way, we always had sex on the night before the Cheltenham Gold Cup because he maintained it brought us luck and he knew that I was superstitious.’

Gadzooks! Too much information, surely?

Shoe designer Manolo Blahnik

Shoe designer Manolo Blahnik

Despite being a sturdy 72-year-old man, shoe designer Manolo Blahnik used to try on every one of his high-heeled creations to test their practicality.

‘Sadly, I can’t do that any more since I broke a tendon in my leg,’ says the Spaniard, who lives in Bath, Somerset.

‘But my assistants and I used to walk up and down the factory in the heels to ensure the shoes didn’t rub or cause blisters.

‘I think that it’s a strange, prehistoric idea that you have to suffer to be beautiful.

The heel shouldn’t be too high, but just high enough to give women that sexy sway when they walk.

‘I love to see English women in my shoes — they bring a natural theatre to them.’

Maharaja's playboy heir welcomes son

Ten years after being left in a coma by a horrific polo accident, the Maharaja of Jodhpur’s eldest son, Shivraj Singh, has welcomed a son and heir.

Old Etonian Shivraj, 40, suffered severe head injuries at a match in Jaipur in 2005, which left him in a coma for two months.

But after a remarkable recovery, he was able to go back to work for his family’s palace hotel group.

Once one of the most eligible bachelors in the world, the playboy prince has a daughter after marrying Indian princess Gayatri Kumari, right, five years ago.

Guests at his lavish 2010 wedding included Sir Mick Jagger and the Duchess of York.

Geeky actor Simon Pegg still can’t believe the gorgeous Kate Beckinsale was cast as his romantic interest in the comedy film Absolutely Anything. ‘It’s always the way, though, isn’t it?’ he admits. ‘It’s a male-skewed industry, so you’ll often find the male leads of films punch above their weight.’ The film’s director, Monty Python star Terry Jones, knows a thing or two about unlikely relationships: he is married to a Swedish belly dancer 41 years his junior.
