Amy Adams wraps up warm as she joins Jake Gyllenhaal to shoot wintry scenes for new movie Nocturnal Animals in Beverly Hills

She enjoyed a visit from her daughter and husband while filming her new movie Nocturnal Animals, on Sunday.

But it was strictly back to business on the set of the thriller for Amy Adams, 41, as she was joined by co-star Jake Gyllenhaal, 34, in Beverly Hills for a wintry scene.

Amy's copper hair and fair complexion lit up the set, which was dominated by cast and crew members dressed fully in black.

Stood clutching designer shopping bags, the actresses tresses were tucked inside her high-necked top. The star wore a black overcoat with black gloves, tights and a pair of leather boots.

Jake was similarly wrapped up, wearing a scarf and a dark grey overcoat teamed with dark grey suit trousers and a pair of brown shoes.

Fake snow filled the air and glistened as it fell, giving off a Christmassy feel.

The pair seemed to be getting along well as they stood deep in conversation outside Saks 5th Avenue department store.

Jake appeared in a much healthier condition than in previous on-set shots.

He recently looked terrifying as he dragged himself through a field in tattered clothing while carrying a handgun in intense scenes filmed in Santa Clarita, California.

His usual handsome looks were masked behind a full face of what appeared to be cosmetically-applied burns, cuts and sores, with an excess of surrounding blood.

Jake is famous for his commitment to preparing for roles. In last year's Nightcrawler, the actor shed 20 pounds for his role as Louis Bloom, a journalist who shoots and films crimes before getting increasingly and dangerously lost in the job.

He then beefed back up for the role of a boxer in Southpaw.

Nocturnal Animals has an all-star cast, including Amy Adams, Isla Fisher, Kim Basinger, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ellie Bamber and Robert Aramayo. The movie is an adaptation of Austin Wright’s 1993 book Tony and Susan.

The story follows a woman (Adams) who is sent a mysterious manuscript from her ex-husband asking for her opinion.

Susan becomes enthralled with the fictional life of the protagonist, Tony Hastings (Gyllenhaal) and his wife Laura (Fisher), and as both stories unfold, Susan is plunged back into her dark past.

Split into two parts, the second half of the movie follows Tony and his family vacation which takes a violent turn.

American fashion designer Tom Ford is credited to have written the script and will produce as well as direct the film.

This will be Ford's second foray into film direction, having debuted with A Single Man in 2009 for which Colin Firth received an Oscar nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role.
