It's not the first time Lorde has been accused of lip-syncing but the teenage queen of pop joked off the latest speculation.

Debuting on the coveted Saturday Night Live at the weekend, viewers were apparently so impressed by the 19-year-old's performance with Disclosure they accused her of not singing live.

Taking to Twitter the day after the episode aired, the Royals singer dispelled the negativity, writing: 'Goes without saying I have never/will never haha.'

'Wow - the fact that some people thought i was lip syncing on snl is an awesome compliment!' she added on Twitter.

The Tweet came after number of comments posted to her Instagram account and Facebook, with one follower writing: 'Queen of lip syncing'.

Another user Tweeted to her: 'Wish I could lip sync like that'.

Making her first appearance on the show with British electronic duo, Lorde sang Magnets, which she sings vocals for on Disclosure's latest record, Caracal.

Almost never breaking eye contact with the camera, her performance went from reasonably subdued at the start of the track to tribe-like head thrashing at the end.

The ethereal beauty showed off her trim pins in a Gothic-glam outfit on stage, with a tuxedo-style studded blazer and sheer black stockings

Her waist was cinched with a statement black leather belt, as she was illuminated in the colours of the French flag, following the terror attacks in Paris at the weekend.

She sported straight locks compared to her wildly brunette mane, and finished off her look with crimson lips and dark pink eye shadow.

Last year, the singer was caught up in another lip-syncing snafu, when she forgot to put the microphone up to her lips after the music cut out during her performance at the Grammy's.
