They called off their engagement in 2013, but Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus once again proved they have managed to maintain a good friendship since their split.

The Australian actor and the provocative pop star’s love of dogs saw them come together for a good cause after it was revealed Miley helped her former fiancé adopt a puppy over the weekend.

Liam and Miley are known for their love of animals, and The Hunger Games hunk looked very happy as he posed for a snap with his new pet.

The picture – which was shared on the Wylder’s Holistic Pet Center’s Instagram page – a smiling Liam could be seen in a casual ensemble as he posed beside the large six-month-old pooch.

The caption read: ‘Thanks @mileycyrus for loving dogs as much as we do!! You helped find this gigantic, 6 month old puppy a new home.

‘@liamhemsworth you will give this deserving baby a great life!’

Miley is a long-time supporter of the organisation and was previously pictured visiting the center to take a look at some of the pooches up for adoption.

Meanwhile, Liam has been busy promoting the final film in the Hunger Games franchise with his co-stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson.

The series, adapted from the teen novels of Suzanne Collins, tells the story of Katniss Everdene and her battle to survive in a life-and-death game in a post-apocalyptic world.

Liam, 25, plays the role of Gale Hawthorn, appearing alongside Lawrence in each of its four films.
