SPOILER ALERT: Daryl Dixon hears scratchy plea for help on The Walking Dead... sparking speculation about Glenn's fate

The final moments of The Walking Dead on Sunday included  a scratchy radio distress call that may finally reveal the fate of fan favourite Glenn Rhee.

The episode titled  Always Accountable ended with Daryl Dixon desperately using his walkie-talkie to try to make contact with the others in Alexandria.

After constant radio silence, Daryl was shocked to hear statics sounds and then a soft call of ‘Help!’

The distress call immediately sparked speculation that it was proof that Glenn survived his fall into a dumpster full of walkers - especially as he was seen clearly carrying a two-way radio before his seemingly fatal fall.

The dramatic radio message came after an episode that centered on Daryl, Abraham, and Sasha - with Daryl getting separated from his friends after an ambush and shoot-out at the start of the show.

While Daryl was forced to fight for his survival in a burnt out forest, Abraham and Sasha instead sought solace in an office building - with Abraham soon hitting on his partner.

After a night of tension - with Sasha constantly criticizing Abraham for his clear joy in wanting to kill every walker he saw - Abraham seemed to have a revelation in the morning with an unexpected discovery.

With a walker impaled outside, he found a stash of rocket-propelled grenade ammo and cigars - but with the RPG launcher itself hanging from a walker impaled on a fence.

Challenging himself to not just kill the walker, he instead risked his life by trying to wrestle away the RPG - finally giving up with a cry and instead relaxing with a cigar.

The walker then fell, leaving the RPG dangling within easy reach - leaving Abraham with a giant grin as he took his find back to Sasha in the office, telling her it was ‘the fruit of some off-the-chart stupidity.’

‘Self awareness is a beautiful thing,’ she told him, with him instead smiling proudly - and soon hitting on her.

‘I know this group, and I know Rick, and whatever happened back there is being managed,’ he told her.

‘We got beer, and air conditioning, and walls. The table is set for the rest of our lives, and I hope those years to be long and fruitful.

‘I see that time before me, and I’ve been feeling the urge to make some plays,’ he continued, before he ‘gurgles my last breathe.’

‘I like the way you call bulls*** Sasha,’ he finally told her.

‘I believe I’d like to get to know you a whole lot better.’

Sasha merely smiled and chuckled at how upfront he was, asking: ‘That one of your plays?’

‘What makes you think I want that?’ she then asked.

‘A man can tell,’ he insisted, making her laugh again.

‘Well you got some stuff to take care of,’ she told him, to which he proudly replied: ‘Yeah. I do.’

Throughout their time in the office, they were watched by a walker who was stuck behind a locked glass door desperately trying to get to them, with Abraham saying of him: ‘Gorgeous over here is still standing.’

While they were never in real danger, Daryl was in trouble almost from the start.

He came across two women in the forest working with a man who knocked him out from behind

As he came to, a gun was pointed at his head and the man threatened: ‘Here’s the deal - you don’t say s*** and I don’t kill you.’

Clearly thinking Daryl was someone else, the man then told him: ’If they find us maybe we’ll give you to them, call it even. See, we’re reasonable people.’

The trio who found Daryl were looking for a woman called Patty - but when they arrived at a garage where they expected to find her it was overrun by walkers, leaving the youngest woman, Tina, to faint.

Daryl used the drama to steal their bag and run away only to almost be killed by a walker as he struggled to get his crossbow out in time due to an injured arm from the earlier gunfight.

After taking care of the walker, he then saw that the bag was full of insulin, so he went back to the trio.

Daryl forced them to hand over their gun as well as a wooden carving the man had in exchange for the insulin.

As Daryl was about to leave, they froze in place at the sound of a truck approaching - and then a man whose face was not shown telling them to ‘return what you took’.

‘It’s over - you know the rules,’ the man, identified as Wade, told them.

‘We’re not going back Wade. We’re done kneeling,’ the man in the trio insisted.

As the men in the truck searched for them, Daryl helped the trio hide - and then rustled some leaves to lead the searcher towards a walker, leaving him bitten on the arm.

To their shock Wade then came forward, radioed that ‘Cam got a boo boo’ - and then cut off his arm below the bite.

As the group left, the trio turned to Daryl and the man said: ‘Man, we thought you were with them. We knock you over the head, tie you up, threaten to kill you… why the hell did you come back?

‘Maybe I’m stupid too,’ Daryl told them.

They soon came across a burned-out building with two bodies lying dead in the ashes, with the youngest woman from the group, Tina, sobbing that she used to babysit them.

She then bent down to leave some flowers on their bodies - only for the walkers to spring to life and bite her to death.

As they dug a grave for Tina, Daryl asked the man if he had killed any walkers and was told ‘a couple of dozen at least’ but when asked if he killed any humans the man replied no.

‘If I did, there’d be no going back - no going back to how things were,’ the man told him.

‘I’m from a place where people are still like they were, more or less, for better or worse,’ Daryl said, offering to take them with him.

But instead they held him at gunpoint and stole his motorbike and crossbow leaving him with nothing but the wooden carving he had taken from the man.

As they drove off, the woman said ‘Sorry,’ to which Daryl replied: ‘You’re gonna be.’

As everything seemed lost, he found a fuel depot emblem on the ground and a truck hidden not too far away, allowing him to drive and find Abraham and Sasha, with them reunited and driving off to reunite with the others at the end of the episode.
