EXCLUSIVE: Netflix has greenlit The OA, a straight-to-series drama reuniting Sundance faves Brit Marling and director Zal Batmanglij. Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner from Plan B (Oscar winning producers of 12 Years A Slave) and Michael Sugar from Anonymous Content (True Detective, The Knick) are executive producers of the series, along with Marling and Batmanglij.
Eight hour-long episodes of the series will premiere exclusively across all Netflix territories in 2016. Netflix is keeping the series’ logline under wraps but it is believed that the show will have some mystery elements to it.
Marling and Batmanglij are regular collaborators. The two have worked together on The East and The Sound Of My Voice, which Marling also co-produced and co-wrote with Batmanglij.

While Netflix has aggressively expanded its original programming, the tie-up with Marling and Batmanglij, not to mention high profile partners in Plan B and Anonymous, reps a bold indie-inflected creative statement for the SVOD giant.

It’s been a busy few days for Netflix. As Deadline exclusively revealed, the self-proclaimed leading internet TV network in the world, closed a big deal for Cary Fukunaga’s Beasts Of No Nation starring Idris Elba as well as a global deal for A&E’s The Returned. The company has also announced a first look deal with Leonardo DiCaprio to produce documentaries together.

Seriously???? Brit marling can not act. Period. Hope she’s not on it. Sound of My voice was well directed-minus her “performance”. This sounds perfectly pretentious for these 2. If this keeps her out of more movies, I’m all for it.
Or one of the greatest actors of her generation who keeps turning away from bs in favor of forging her own path. Go girl.
Might have some problems with that title–OA is the homeworld of the Green Lantern Corps, of said movie and comic fame–Warner Bros. may send a cease and desist.
