'He wants to distance himself': Louis Tomlinson reveals Zayn Malik wants some space from One Direction as he attempts to launch his solo career
It's been speculated that they aren't on the finest of terms since his exit from One Direction earlier this year.
And Louis Tomlinson confirmed that One Direction rarely keep in touch with Zayn Malik when the group were quizzed on their former band member during a recording of The Jonathon Ross Show earlier this week.
The interview - which will air on Saturday night - sees the 23-year-old star open up about 1D's relationship with the 22-year-old as the comical chat show host asked who he was closest to in the band before his departure earlier this year.

Candid: Louis Tomlinson confirmed that One Direction rarely keep in touch with Zayn Malik when the group were quizzed on their former band member during a recording of The Jonathon Ross Show earlier this week
'I think when we were in the band, yeah probably, maybe that was me,' Louis confessed.
'You know, I think we all kind of noticed that he wasn't thoroughly enjoying it and we were and you know it can be an intense job at times and I think it got a little bit too much for him and he wanted to be in a different place and that's fair enough and he's got his own way no so fair dos.'
When prodded by the host on the last time the boys spoke to their former band mate, Louis hesitated before revealing, 'I don't know a couple of weeks ago or something... I think he wants to distance himself a little bit.'

Dishing the dirt: 'I think we all kind of noticed that he wasn't thoroughly enjoying it and we were and you know it can be an intense job at times and I think it got a little bit too much for him,' they said of their ex member
Slam: Louis' revelation came just a short while after Zayn described One Direction's music as 'generic as f**k'
Louis' revelation came just a short while after Zayn blasted One Direction's music as 'generic as f**k' during a recent interview with Fader magazine.
'There was never any room for me to experiment creatively in the band. [It was] generic as f**k. That's not music that I would listen to. Would you listen to One Direction, sat at a party with your girl? I wouldn't.'
Despite announcing earlier this year that they were to take lengthy hiatus after years of incessant touring, the candid chat also saw Harry reveal that their constant touring him saw him grow more accustomed to life on the road than life at home, something he is hoping to change once the boys finally part ways.

Honest: Despite announcing earlier this year that they were to take lengthy hiatus after years of incessant touring, Harry revealed that their constant touring him saw him grow more accustomed to life on the road
'I don’t know if it’s so much longing for the other side,' he said of the split.
'I know grass is always greener type thing but sometimes it’s more just a realisation that sometimes you realise you feel more comfortable on the road than you do at home.
'If you’re at home for a few days then you might be like, well for the last four years we’ve been moving so much you kinda don’t know what to do with yourself sometimes if you’re actually at home. So it’ll be nice just doing that for a while.'
After their entertaining chat, the band closed the show with a performance of their latest single, Perfect.
