'It was blown out of proportion': CeeLo Green apologises for drugs conviction, claims he is 'amicable' with sexual battery accuser he 'gave ecstasy' to

CeeLo Green has claimed the incident that led to him being convicted for furnishing a woman with ecstasy was 'blown out of proportion.'.

The rapper told chat show host Steve Harvey the last time he spoke to the victim, who accused him in 2012 of spiking her drink and sexual battery, they were 'amicable.'

At the time Green’s attorney described the interaction between his client and the woman, who woke up naked in his hotel room, as 'consensual relations.' Prosecutors cited a lack of evidence as the reason they declined to file sex-related charges.

When asked on a forthcoming Steve Harvey episode if he had met with the woman since his conviction, the singer and former The Voice coach said: 'No, we have not had the opportunity to speak.

'The last time that we did, it was amicable. We walked away from it.

'(It was) really unfortunate and inconvenient to both of us, and we both agreed that we would just like to resume back into real life.'

The F*** You singer added that too much had been made of what had gone on between himself and the unidentified woman.

Green, 41, said: 'It was something that was blown out of proportion. (It is) something that I'm not even at liberty to be so detailed about.

'But just to answer the question, yeah it was like it was amicable.'

After he pleaded no contest to a felony count of furnishing ecstasy he was sentenced to three years' probation, 360 hours of community service and to attend 52 Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous meetings.

Green, real name Thomas DeCarlo Callaway, also offered a heartfelt apology to fans over what had happened, and insisted he had channelled his experience into his new album Heart Blanche.

The Gnarles Barkley singer said: 'I'm fortunate to still have fans who are forgiving... and understanding and they do realize that we are but human beings and we make mistakes, but I am not my mistakes.

'And either it be by default or design, I am here humbled and humanized and with a heartfelt new album that really does address the wisdom and understanding that I got out of the experience.

'So I'm very fortunate for that, and I do sincerely apologise for anybody that I may have offended.

I've been entertaining you for the last 20 years now and I'd love to continue if you will have me.'

It is not the first time he has issued an apology in connection with the case.

In September last year he said he was sorry over controversial statements about rape that appeared under his name on Twitter.

He said: 'I truly and deeply apologize for the comments attributed to me on Twitter. Those comments were idiotic, untrue and not what I believe.'

He apparently made the shocking statements while replying to Twitter users' comments on his drug case, tweeting: 'If someone is passed out they're not even WITH you consciously! so WITH Implies consent,' he tweeted.

He later added: 'People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!'

Green's interview is set to air on Steve Harvey on NBC on the week of December 7.
