They've both insisted they continue to have a strong friendship despite deciding to 'consciously uncouple' last year.

And the latest sign of Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow's unity is the revelation that the actress has recorded vocals for her ex's new Coldplay album.

The former couple's two children Apple, 11, and Moses, nine, also feature, alongside three-year-old Blue Ivy - the daughter of Chris' close pals Jay Z and Beyonce, and his current girlfriend Annabelle Wallis.

Chris, 38, explained in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that those involved in the band's forthcoming LP A Head Full of Dreams, which will be released on December 4, have played an 'important' part in his life.

He explained: 'Everyone who got asked to sing on our album has an important part in our lives ... What I'm trying to learn in my life is the value of every human.'

Gwyneth and co join previously revealed guests Noel Gallagher, Beyoncé and Tove Lo, who all feature on the eagerly-anticipated record.

Explaining the recording process, Chris said he was inspired by the 13th Century poet Rumi: 'Inclusiveness is the key thing, and it all comes from that 'Guest House' poem. The 'Choir' started with my two kids coming in after school and recording,' he explained.

'We recorded Blue Ivy Carter in New York when her mom Beyoncé was in the studio. It comes from learning about Greek tragedy, where the chorus chimes in at times. To me, when we use that sound, it's to affirm what I'm saying. "We agree with you, Chris. Keep singing.'''

Gwyneth appears on the song Everglow which the Wall Street Journal describes as a ballad 'about a relationship's enduring spark,' while the frontman's new girlfriend Annabelle sings on another song, according to the report.

Chris has been seen enjoying romantic dates with Peaky Blinders star Annabelle over the past few weeks, following his split from Gwyneth back in April 2014 after 11 years of marriage.

Gwyneth, 43, meanwhile is dating director and writer Brad Falchuk. While both parties have moved on, Chris states that the ex couple are still very involved in one another's lives.

On Thursday, in an interview for On Air with Ryan Seacrest, Chris was very open about the status of his current relationship with his ex.

'Just because a romantic relationship ends, doesn't mean that the other facets of your relationship have to end, or indeed, doesn't mean they can't get better,' he pointed out.
