Khloe Kardashian says Lamar Odom may NEVER fully recover mentally from overdose ordeal and that if he does it could still take up to TWO years

Khloe Kardashian has revealed the long road to recovery estranged husband Lamar Odom faces after his hospitalization last month.

The 31-year-old star said she is trying to stay positive even though doctors say they can't be sure if the 36-year-old athlete will make a full recovery.

Khloe said during an interview with Today: 'They think, like, within a year and a half to two years that, mentally, he might be fully recovered. But they don't know.'

The reality star said she's grateful that the athlete is no longer relying on life support but that things are moving very slowly. 

'He is learning how to walk again and learning ... cognitive therapy and speech therapy,'  

Khloe also relived the moment she got the phone call telling her Lamar was in a coma and was told he only have four hours to live.

'It's a horrible call to get. Getting to the hospital and knowing he's in a coma and having to run these tests or make medical decisions. It's terrifying.'

The E! star said she always tried her best to stay positive despite hospital staff telling her how bleak the prognosis was. 

The Kardashian star said she felt huge pressure having to make life-and-death decisions.

'You have to make risk-and-reward decisions,' she said.

'Like, OK, well, there's an 80 percent chance if we do this operation, he might pass away. But also if we don't do it, there's a 90 percent chance he'll pass away.' 

Still married to the sportsman, Khloe said she is responsible for making decisions regarding Lamar's medical care as stated in his will.

Before the overdose, Khloe was having divorce proceedings expedited but put them on hold knowing that Lamar had nobody else to act as his medical adviser.

'I'm still separated with him, but I'm just not expediting them anymore' she confirmed. 

Lamar was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel in October after a four-day bender.

During a chat with Ryan Seacrest on Monday Khloe explained: 'What the doctors tell me is, "We don’t have a crystal ball" — they love reiterating that to me. I’m very optimistic and I want to believe he can.'

The Strong Looks Better Naked author continued, 'There are no promises, but if he’s willing to do the work — I know the speech therapy, or the occupational therapy, or just all the cognitive stuff I’m sure it’s really hard for him and frustrating — but if he’s willing to do it, I don’t see why not. But it will take at least a year.'

Khloe also revealed that Lamar’s organs are 'pretty much recovered.'

But it's 'more his brain that is affected.'   

Khloe married Lamar in 2009 and the couple split in 2013.
