'Although I knew for 12 months this day would come, it still hurts,' he continued to joke to his 1.32million followers.

'As I fade into my weathered wrinkled exterior, I hope my time will be remembered then forgotten...then forgotten some more (insert crying music).'

Chris' comedic tweet came after The Huntsman's co-star Jessica Chastain took to Twitter to send her thoughts to the Thor actor writing to him: 'Oh man...you must be devastated,' along with the cover of People magazine which featured David.

'I know how much this title meant to you #thehuntsman,' she finished to which he quickly replied: 'Thank u @jes_chastian for your kind words & timely reminder that I'm now over the hill #thehuntsman #SexiestManAlive'.

David also took to social media after being named the Sexiest Man Alive joking about the award stating, 'mum would be proud'.

'I thought I was past my sell by date but thanks to @PeopleMag for the accolade and the compliment! I always feel a little shy when receiving these Awards, though it will make my Mum happy.

'This one the kids will laugh at, as they see what Daddy looks like in the morning!'

But while Chris showed off his funny side about being replaced by the Englishman, he touched down in Los Angeles after taking some much needed time out with family back in Australia.

The 32-year-old showed off a cheeky smirk as he walked through the international terminal dressed in a simple white t-shirt which he teamed up with grey and black knee-length shorts.

He covered his eyes with a large pair of shades while keeping his golden locks underneath his navy NY baseball cap.

While pulling his suitcase behind him, Chris stopped to greet awaiting fans while also taking the time out to sign autographs.
