'I had blood on my clothes because I brushed against a fence': Married father-of-five accused of raping and murdering girl at football game insists he is innocent

  • Timothy Madden, 38, was arrested Friday over the death of Gabriella Doolin
  • He claims blood police found on his clothes was from a fence or trash can
  • Madden was at school with Doolin's dad, and their daughters were friends
  • Gabriella was watching Pee Wee game at Allen County-Scottsville High School in Kentucky with her parents last Saturday
  • She disappeared at 7.40pm, her name was announced on the intercom, and the school went on lockdown
  • Police found her body in a wooded area only 400 yards away at 8.05pm
  • An autopsy has been completed but a cause and manner of death has not been released by police
  • Madden, who is a construction worker, reportedly sat near Gabriella and her family at the football game
  • He is facing charges of murder, kidnapping, first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy
  • His wife is ailing and has had three strokes since August

The married father of five arrested over the death of seven-year-old Gabriella Doolin claims evidence police found connecting him to the murder is not what it seems.

Timothy Madden, 38, was detained on Friday after three or four interviews with police, during which they allegedly found blood on his clothes.

However, in his first public interview since his arrest, Madden told WDRB the blood brushed onto him when he walked past a fence. He later said the blood came from brushing past a trash can.

Madden also accused neighbors in Scottsville, Kentucky, of reporting him to police because they believed 'local gossip'.

'It’s all bogus. I’m a very innocent man. They can ask anybody that knows me,' Madden said in the nine-minute interview.

Little Gabriella was found dead in a creek during a football game last Saturday.

She was reported missing around 7.40pm Saturday by her mother while they were at a football game at Allen County-Scottsville High School in south-central Kentucky.

A search began, and Gabriella's body was found about 25 minutes later in a creek in a wooded area behind the high school.

Timothy Madden, whose children are aged from four months to 20 years old, was taken into custody in the case, charged with murder, kidnapping, first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy.

He attended high school with Gabriella’s father, Brian Doolin, who is the same age as the suspect. Madden's seven-year-old daughter used to practice cheerleading with Gabriella.

Madden's son was playing in the football game when Gabriella disappeared.

Speaking to WDRB on Friday, Madden said he has been arrested before for misdemeanor traffic tickets and cold checks.

However, he insists he does not know what concrete evidence police could have to connect him to this crime.

WDRB reporter Emily Mieure asked: 'Had they questioned you at all before your arrest?'

Madden replied: 'Oh yeah, several times. Interrogated me, like three or four times. Polygraph.

'I give ‘em my clothes that night. I think – yeah, they did mention I had blood on my clothes or something, but because I rubbed against a fence – like I said, rubbed against a trash can.

'That’s the only thing I know where I’d get blood from, but it wasn’t me.'

Asked to give his version of events, Madden said: 'Last time I seen her, I was we was – I was – sitting on the side of the [INAUDIBLE], like I always, watching the…smoking a cigarette. And she walked by.

'And the other two girls came acro – through there first…I don’t know…a minute before. And then she came over there looking around, and I said, "Well, they went that way". And that was the last time I saw her.'

He added: 'She came in front of the bleachers to the back of the bleachers. And that's all I know.'

It wasn't for another 45 minutes that people began searching for Gabriella.

Madden also said: 'When I do get out of here, I will sue KSP and everybody else that’s slandering my name.'

Trooper B.J. Eaton said at a news conference on Friday afternoon that Madden was being processed into jail after his arrest earlier in the day.

The station WAVE3 recorded Madden the same afternoon, in handcuffs and wearing a blue 'Kentucky' pullover, as he was being taken from the state police post in Bowling Green to a squad car just before the news conference began.

A reporter asked if he had anything to say, and Madden replied, 'I'm innocent.'

The source also said Madden was sitting near the Doolin family at the football game last Saturday night.

Trooper Eaton later confirmed to the radio station KTSA that Madden knew the girl's family.

'I know they were acquaintances, I don’t know how in-depth but they do knew each other,' he said.

According to his Facebook page, which has since been deleted, Madden works in construction and lives with his wife, Jodi King Madden, in Scottsville, as the site Heavy.com first reported.

A GoFundMe campaign started by a friend claimed Jodi King Madden has a rare condition called Takayasu's arteritis, which causes arteries to become inflamed and blocked, and she has suffered three strokes since late August, resulting in her hospitalization.

The fundraising page stated Timothy Madden 'has not left her side since the very first stroke on the 21st [of August].'

In late April, Mrs King Madden shared an ultrasound photo on her Facebook page announcing she was 25 weeks pregnant with a baby boy.

Gabriella was playing during the Pee Wee game at Allen County-Scottsville High School with other children when she disappeared and was reported missing by her parents.

An announcement was made over the stadium's intercom at 7.40pm and the school went on a 'complete lockdown', a family friend said.

Authorities immediately began searching for Gabby and found her body 25 minutes later in a creek in a wooded area just 400 yards away from the school at 8.05pm.

An autopsy conducted Sunday ruled the girl's death a homicide. State police have not released other details of the autopsy, including the manner of death.

More than 500 people in the tight-knit community gathered Sunday night for a vigil with Gabby's parents Brian and Amy Doolin to honor and remember their little girl.

Brian Doolin expressed his love for the community for standing by the family amid tragedy.

'I ain't no speaker, but I have love in my heart,' he said during the vigil.

'Hold those babies tight. I'd love to hold Gabby just one more time, just hold her tight.'

Pastor Keith Patrick spoke for the community's shock that something so horrible could happen in their small town.

'We are a great city, a great community,' he said. 'We love one another. You never expect it. But it's a constant reminder that evil has no borders or boundaries.

'Just like Paris, you wake up and something happens like that in your own backyard.'

Allen County Sheriff Jeff Cooke wrote on his Facebook that Gabby's death had rocked the tight bond of the community 'to its core'.

And on Monday he took to his Facebook again to try and reassure residents that their families were still safe.

'Our children are safe going to school,' he wrote. 'This terrible tragedy is being treated as an isolated incident and we do not feel there is an ongoing threat.'

Allen added that he would be increasing police presence at the school to reinforce that the children of the community are safe.

Doolin's funeral was held Thursday at Scottsville Baptist Church. Members of the Scottsville community lined the streets holding pink and blue balloons to release as a hearse drove by carrying girl.
